When the sea roars

We are a few kilo meters away from the sea. It takes around 30 minutes to get to the beach. But when it rains heavily we can hear the sea roar from where we are.
There are many who live by the seaside and for them it is a threat that the sea may devour them. It has happened before.
The sea is eroding the land around it despite heavy boulders having been placed around. The waves are so strong that they carry those heavy boulders with them.
But cruel as it may sound I love to have a look at what the sea is like during the rainy weather. It has that angry look. The beach has been swallowed where one normally relaxes and watches the placid waters. For that, one needs to wait.
How has been your experience?

@allknowing Do you mean near the seashore? No never, as I said the Mediterranean is a quiet sea.

Have you had any occasion to be by the sea when it was creating problems for human beings?

Considering that you can hear the sea's mighty roar despite the distance, I cannot imagine how those living near it could sleep soundly at night, much more if there is a tsunami threat.

But for those who have no threat it is a kind of a sightseeing experience. I have gone to see such a scene when it came in the news of what the sea had done to those around

@sunrisefan Human beings have this curiosity and I cannot say I am above it. Sad, but true.

@allknowing That reminds me of the time there was a 6.9 earthquake north of our province and there were unconfirmed news that there was a tsunami threat. Many residents of the city, us included, rushed to higher ground in cars and other modes of transportation. I was amused then because while we were going up, we met others also going down saying they wanted to see an actual tsunami rush at the boulevard. Foolish people, I thought. Go see a tsunami and don't live to tell about it? LOL!

i'm thousands'f miles 'way from any ocean, but do know that here'n the u.s. that erosion's due to mankind. when folks build close to waters 'f any kind, they remove natures protection 'n then sadly pay the price when storms come.

There have been people who have gone to see such disasters in person - kind of a sightseeing activity. As I have commented elsewhere here I wonder why we do it!!

@allknowing I guess most of us are curious about what it looks like, how it happened, thank goodness it wasn't me type of stuff.

The sight and sound of the sea is not only fascinating but also unnerving especially when it makes a ruckus and that too at night. Land erosion by the sea is a fact in many places and tsunamis are also a threat.
A big earthquake can trigger a tsunami and as is a fact with with creation there is always a duality attached when people want to live near the sea - the wonder at looking at it and the dangers too ever prevalent; flirting with danger and the thrill attached to it ! siva
