Blood Test Results

United States

I went to the doctor yesterday afternoon for the results of my blood work. Good news and bad news On the whole everything was good. But, my cholesterol (the bad one) was on the high side so now I have to revamp my eating and see if I can bring it down by the time I need more blood work. Other wise I'll have to go on medication and I don't want to have to do that if I can avoid it. The other thing was my blood pressure was high but that does't surprise me. Taking care of my 94 yr old mother is VERY stressful. Other than that.....life is good

High Cholesterol runs in my family and for 10 years I took medication. Then I lost 60 pounds and now I am off of the medication.

Wow that's really impressive. Did you do a specific diet to lose that much weight or just moderate eating?

I am giving this serious attention and going to get myself healthier. I've neglected myself way too long these past years

It is quite easy to bring the cholesterol down. You have to exercise enough till the point of sweating. I think a few months of gardening will bring the cholesterol down to a low level.

@Marilynda1225 Actually I find diet does not impact on cholesterol as much as exercise. I think a few months of gardening will bring the cholesterol down, even if you eat the same food.

I'm counting on being able to bring the cholesterol down with some diet changes and some exercise. Gardening sounds both relaxing and fun

I am going to try my best to lower it myself. I hate taking medication so this will be an incentive for me to stick to a better eating plan

best of luck with the cholesterol changes - some nice things you can eat to help it. and as for the BP - stress most certainly is a factor.

I was always under the impression that when your cholesterol went up so did your blood pressure. I could be wrong, so please don't quote me, but if that is right, when you lower one you should be able to lower the other. I hope that you can do this. Its a change of season, so you'll need to change your menu and hopefully things will turn around.

Try to avoid medication, check if there are foods you can eat to lower the bad cholesterol, it's much better.

Yes, taking care of our sick parents is not easy, it's very stressful. And I can relate you on that, so take care of your blood pressure, don't worry too much and stress free even how hard is to take care of our sick mother.

Sometimes I think the side-effects of medication are worse than what you are originally taking it for. I'm going to do my best to avoid this at all costs

@Marilynda1225 You are so right. Have you seen the commercials for any type of medication these days. Apparently they now have to list the side effects, all of them. Now the commercials are like 3 or 4 minutes long because they have to list those side effects, Scary mess that.

Hopefully you can get the cholesterol and the BP down before the doctor feels he needs to step in and do it for you.
