Toy library

Have you heard of toy libraries? I hadn't until yesterday when my daughter told me about taking her nine-month-old to one. The toy library has space to play with the toys there (space is hard to come by in downtown Tokyo), or you can take toys out to play with at home. I think this is a brilliant idea, as children go through stages and people end up with too many unused toys. Do you have any lending libraries other than for books? I have also heard of them for yard tools.

When our boys were little we belonged to a toy library which had a lot of good, sturdy toys. I think we could take them out for three weeks at a time.

That sounds awesome. It will ease the bulk of toys in houses which mostly are kept after the kids get tired or annoyed playing with them.

Never heard of toy libraries. But in the public library, there was a designated space for children to play with toys. A room separated from the rest of the library and lots of people brought their kids there to play.

Wow! this is a wonderful concept. I hope such concepts would come in India too! But what if the child loves the toy too much and refuses to return it?

That would be a learning experience for the child.

Our son, now 39, used to love going to the local toy library. I'm out of touch with such things now but I think they still have them.

I have never heard about toy libraries, but this does not mean that they do not exist here. I have no children, so I never searched.

@petatonicsca Now this is a very good concept, its true that when the child is small... he/she has so many toys it gets difficult to store them all in the flats we live... Hope this concept gets famous everywhere...
