Have you donated blood before?

blood donation

My husband is going to donate blood later, and we will go together with him, though I can't donate blood now. I have never donated blood before, though I always wanted to do so. I am always not qualified to be a blood donor. I was always under weight. There was once, the nurse allowed me to donate though I was slightly under weight, but after testing my blood, I was told I didn't have enough iron in my blood. So, I always accompany my husband to go and donate blood, but I have never donate before. Perhaps I will be able to donate blood a few years later, as it seems like I have been gaining more weight now. Have you donated blood before? Are you a regular blood donor?

I've never done it, though I would like to. I'm probably too anemic to do it at this point, and I'm not sure if people with fibromyalgia are able to donate anyway. I'm probably more likely to donate plasma than whole blood, though... it's a pretty nice way to make a bit of extra money around here.

Yes, I think we have to fulfill certain health condition then only we can donate our blood. We have to take care of ourselves, before we can help others. I have no idea about donating plasma, I have not heard about that before. Why making a bit of extra money? Do you get some money for donating blood or plasma?

@infatuatedbby He tries to donate consistently, every three months. But sometimes he's busy or he just forgets about it.

Then I guess you can't go for blood donation too. Is that because of the liver issue you mentioned previously?

@kaka135 In addition to the liver issue, but in general - I have always done blood testing I do not think I can donate due to not being normal sometimes also. Very nice of your husband to donate. Does he donate often?

Would he get anything for the blood donation? over here, they do not give anything, but blood donor can get special discount for visits to government clinic and hospital, and they can nominate one more person to get the discount too.

He will get some food to eat after blood donation, if that counts. I guess the charges for visiting government clinic or hospital here is considered very low or totally free, so I don't think we need discounts for that. I am not sure if there's any benefits or privilege for regular blood donor, I didn't check it out and I was not told in the blood donation campaign too.

@scheng1 They even get rice and grocery items? I don't know about that, and I have not encountered that too. I guess it also depends on the campaigns and the organizers, perhaps. If they get some sponsors, perhaps they might give away something for free just to attract others to donate blood.

@kaka135 I heard some Malaysia friends say that they can get rice or some grocery items to take home after donating blood. I am not sure if it applies to everyone or just to some people.

I hope I will be able to donate blood one day later. It seems like I am gaining weight now, even before I was pregnant.

Perhaps it's because I stay in city, so we can find the blood donation campaign easily everywhere.

@JudyEv For ours here, it's not a permanent place for blood donation. But, there are always booths setting up for that. So, it's quite easy for us if we want to donate our blood.

I have never donated blood and I cannot because I take medication but if I wasn't on medication I would love to donate. I actually don't know what blood type I am..that should be something I know. Haha but yeah it seems really nice to do.

Yes, I guess it's good to know our blood type. I also think it's a good to donate blood too. I'll see if I can do that in a few year time, hope I won't be too old for donating blood at the time.

@DesirousDreamer I don't know if our blood type was tested and recorded when we were born, as I didn't know my blood type until when I was in high school. Nowadays, when the children are born, the record card has already shown that. So I got to know my children's blood types since they were born.

@kaka135 It is good just to see if you can. You could help someone! The hospital I was born at never told my mom my blood type. The many times I have to get blood work done I'm just like...I have no idea what type I am haha

It's so nice of you to be a regular donor. I wish I can be one too. Hopefully I will be qualified after a few years. I just think it's something good to do.

It is very kind of both of you. My husband donated blood in the past for several times. But I haven't donated blood before because of the same reason like you. I am also under weight.

It seems like some mothers here are underweight. I always thought I'd gain weight after giving birth, but I didn't.

I have never done that. I hope I can help by donating my own blood but I have a frail body. I am also underweight and have low blood pressure. Those factors make me not qualified to donate.

I wanted to donate blood but I wont be allowed because I am bombarded with tattoos Something I regret. They look cool when I was on my 20's and still looks good now I am 30 but tattoos may look aweful when I get super old.

What? You can't donate blood because of the tattoos? Why is that so? Tattoos don't have any influence with your blood, do they? Sorry, I just can't figure this out. Perhaps they get nicer again when you are 40. Since you can't get rid of it, then just live with it happily.

@kaka135 It is one of their safety measures against aids as aids can spread with needles.

I don't have the guts to donate some of my blood. When I was a child, my father donated blood to me. I had an operation during that time and I need blood through a delicate surgery.

Are you afraid of the process of blood donation or you might not feel well after donating blood? I always read that a pack of blood that we donate can help someone's life, that makes me want to donate, but in fact, I am really scared of the pain while donating. But, my husband said it's not painful at all as he's not afraid of needle injection, but I am.

@kaka135 I am afraid of the process. On regards to needles, I got used to it. Since I used to have boosters of vaccination.

I can't try, because I am pregnant. I usually can't donate not because of my blood, it's because I am underweight. I haven't seen anyone collapsed because of blood letting, no wonder you are afraid.

I haven't tried. I am not sure if I am qualified too. I guess preferred donors are male because they have no menstruations.

If I am not mistaken, it's very good for female to donate blood as well. I have seen many female blood donors here as well. I just think I should give it a try when I am ready for it.

Being thin doesn't mean I am beautiful. I am not really healthy and fit actually, and need to exercise more to put on weight. I think we need to take good care of ourselves before going for blood donation. I have seen some people feeling dizzy after donating blood.
