What instrument did you play in School Band?

Assuming you may have been in School Band, what instrument did you play? How long were you in Band for, did you enjoy it? Did you get to travel to different cool places for competitions and what not? For myself, I was only in Band for 11th grade, and I played percussion! I had a great time though, lots of good memories, and I learned a lot! I was in "Junior Band" not "Senior Band" even though I was old enough to be in Senior Band, but since I was not in Senior.. I never got to travel far to go on the ultimate competition - "The Nationals" which was usually held in Ottawa one year and then in Vancouver the next year, and it alternates every year like that. Looking back, I wish I joined Senior Band, but oh well. Anywho, I am done babbling away, haha! Picture is of myself and my fellow musicians/bandmates from when I was in 11th grade "Junior Band"

@brokenbee Wow! Multiple xylophones are always a great thing to hear all at once! What fun that must have been :)

@mawdest yup, and I got to hold the biggest xylophone of our school band before, and people were amazed when we performed.

WOW, what an awesome picture. I never played an instrument in the school band but I was a flag girl. I remember twirling my flag with all that I had while having fun doing it. Being on the school band had its perks along with being a flag girl had its perks. I ended up leaving the team due to my illness at that time and my doctor refused to write a statement letting my band coach know that t was okay for me to go to that.

Being a flag girl must have been fun too! :) Sorry to hear you had to leave because of illness! That must have been harsh at the time.

Sounds like you were a very interval part of your group! Yes, it seems like a lot of children do get out of playing music/musical instruments at a young age, I guess they seem to lose interest or something, or find other things to do.

I don't have a band back in school. But I have played drums in a bit in my own way with my friends whom I hate and cherish the most! Lol!

It seems that drums/percussive instruments are quite popular in this discussion! Very good, thanks for your response.

I was in flute all along. My high school marching band came in second in the state. I was also in a flute quartet all four years of high school. Now I teach flute as well as elementary music and middle school choir.

Very cool! Wow, second in the state, that is very good! That's great. Ahh, you teach flute now and music and choir, that is a lot of teaching, but good on you! I loved being in the choir, not so much in elementary/middle school.. But in high school I absolutely LOVED being in the choir/vocal class, had so much fun with that! I never played flute, but the next closest thing would be.. Recorder!

@mawdest I teach recorder too, and play it in concerts sometimes. I have everything from sopranino to bass. They are a lot of fun and not as physically straining as flute.

Clarinet. But apparently I couldn't, um, tongue the reed very well, so I wasn't great at playing. What would Freud say about that?

I always liked the clarinet! Ah, well I have the feeling that I probably would never have been good at a woodwind instrument for the same reason, I am glad I stuck with percussion :)

Very cool! I love the violin, at times, I have wanted to play it, but do not know if I could handle it or not! Good on you, though :)

During my high school years, I was a member of our school's Drum & Lyre. I played both.

Very cool! I loved percussion, but drums were my specialty, especially since I started playing them before I even got to be in the high school band/music program

I played percussion in 7th and 8th grade. I loved it, but I'm less of a band person and more of a keyboard/vocals/electronic music person, so I sort of did my own thing after middle school.

Yay, percussion buddy! That's cool though, I hear that! My band instructor/music teacher was just such a great person that it was hard not to love showing up to band or music class all the time, he had such great stories and he was such a great teacher
