Memories that linger

As I looked at my calendar this morning, I realized that ten years ago, my younger brother passed away. He lived in another province and at first it didn't look like I would be able to go to the funeral. But things worked out, and I met my older brother and sister part way, and we drove. Four years later in May, my older brother passed away, and since he lived a bit closer I was able to attend his funeral as well. Now I just have my two sisters left, and we have tried to spend as much time together as we can. I am looking forward to spending time with both of them in May. Family is so important, and it is nice to get together and reminisce about the times we spent together as children. Time goes go so fast, and we never know when we are going to lose a loved one.

As we get older, we realize the need of being close to our families.

My Dad's birthday would have been on May 2nd, and my thoughts go back to him. A little over a year after he passed my 2 younger brothers and my mother decided that they didn't want me as part of the family any longer. They said some terribly hurtful things to me and my husband. It still breaks my heart, and I still pray for them, but I haven't seen them since the Friday before Mothers Day 5 years ago. I have an older brother that still calls me, but I don't see him as he's busy raising his 3 kids alone.

What an awful thing. You expect family too be close but that isn't always the case. I hope you can make your own 'family' by surrounding yourself with people who really do care for you.

That is so sad, Julia. I am so thankful for a good relationship with my family. I hope that someday you can have reconciliation with your family.

@AnneEJ As hurt as I am still, I do not hate them. I am closed mouthed when it comes to the topic of them. I said the rosary for them on Monday.

I agree that family is very important. It is nice that you still have the chance to be together with your sisters. I really can't imagine myself if who will be the first to die amongst the siblings.

That is so true and I actually called both of my brothers in the last few days just to check in. I think in my family I am the one who has to make the effort.

It is sad to see the ones you love disappear one by one. I hope you and your sisters still have some great times together. I don't have any siblings - so at least I can't lose them!

Though time is becoming a rare commodity, we should prioritize as family and society are integral to our well being. I take proactive steps to meet with my siblings despite us living in different countries - siva

@AnneEJ That series was OK though the first book When the were in Pensacola there were several errors about Pensacola. including having facilites on a highway that donsn't have a one and it would have been more likely of someone being transferred here than to Destin which is much smaller than here and besides we have many age in place facilities.

@Elizaby I am sure that in any book, there are discrepancies, but remember it is fiction, so the author has the liberty to create places that do not exist.
