I thought it was little

Sunday I weeded in the garden. I did not wear my gloves. You take your chances. I thought a little piece of grass got in the skin of my thumb. I saw it. It looked about this big '--' and I know I pulled part of it out. I pulled some more out later with tweezers. I washed my hands with soap and water. It swelled up and hurt. It got a white spot on it. I soaked it in peroxide. I used alcohol on it. I washed dishes by hand in a sink with bleach. It got worse and worse. I put a bandaid and some antibiotic ointment on it but it would not get better. Today I poked it with a needle. I got some infection out of the sore thumb. I poked it some more and got a little blood. Finally tonight I got my tweezers, I poked it, and I squeezed and squeezed. It seems that there was another entire piece of grass in it. The second piece I removed today was about this long '____' or as hubby said, it was huge.. I hope the soreness goes away now.

Wow you really did it this time, didn't you? to be honest, I never wore gloves when I weeded, but I never did anything that serious. I sure hope it heals up now!

@GardenGerty Well better is good. :) I'm so glad it's not getting any worse. But I think you've taught all of us a lesson about wearing gloves when it's really necessary! :)

There is no way your thumb would get better while there was still something in it. Hopefully it will start to heal now.

That is terrible when you get glass in your hand. Hope it is okay now.

Wow that is crazy that a piece that long was not noticeable so it stayed in there that long and irritated your finger so bad. Sounds awful. I hate getting things in my fingers and being in pain. I hope you got a lot accomplished in the garden though.

It was grass. I am thinking the first little piece was sharp. The second one followed it. It was softer, just long and irritating. I am really careful when I see broken glass.

How did the grass get in there and hurt so much? There must have been something else in it.

hubby had that with a rose thorn, it left a little bit deep in his thumb. I always use gloves, but that's cause I dont like getting dirt under my fingernails, never have.

I hope you wear gloves from now on. You are lucky you got that grass out. A splinter may have worked itself out naturally, but not grass.

I would hope it would have rotted eventually. I have had to have a splinter, very large, removed by a surgeon. It has been fifteen years ago though. It is wonderfully better today.

Wow! I hope you got it all and you won't have anymore trouble with it. I didn't know you could get a blade of grass caught in your skin. I'm glad you got it out.
