I did not count on having him ten years early. You could call it recklessness but all these eight years, everyday, he reminds me in his own little ways that he is what I need to have a purpose in life and not just a mere accident. As a mother, this is my job: to give him a good start in life so that he'll have a good foundation to build on while he grows up to become a man. He doesn't need to become perfect but someone who can get past his flaws with a good head on his shoulders and not living in constant fear of not being able to build a life for himself.
It's not just him I need to take good care of. I also need to look after myself. If everything I do only exists because of a mere obligation, taking care of a child would simply be work, work, work. Parents can be burned out too with all the worries of the grown-up world knocking on your doorsteps every time but it's a place where we have thrown ourselves the moment we have decided to start a family. In my case, my parents reminded me everyday that he's my burden alone so in all those eight years, I was never allowed to go anywhere but take care of my infant son. You'd think I got pregnant as a minor, but no, I was already twenty-three years old when I had Ian,
Sometimes I think of what could've happened if I stayed at the temporary home for single mothers instead of going back home when my parents had asked me to. Nevertheless, I'm going to get my own place when Ian is a little older so now I need to start saving up. There are quite a few rent-to-own places in the nearby city where my son and I can live. Fist things first: JOB HUNT!

Having a child does make us grow up and accept responsibility. I was only 18 when I had my first child. I grew up with my children and it has been a wonderful journey.

Well, you don't own your life now that's for sure, when you have a kid you gotta give it all to him.
