# 20 Over the years, I became interested in collecting semi-precious stones. The picture is just some of them I currently have. There are some opals, jade, and other stones I also have. There are some that I have them made into a piece of jewelry like rings, bracelets or pendants. Yet, there are also some that I have given to others as gifts. The deep blue ones pictured are called Lapis Lazuli. I especially had my eyes on the one on the right as it has some gold-colored streaks on it. The other one also has some sparkles especially when I put them up against a light. These pretty rocks came from Afghanistan. The one in the middle is called Zebra Rock. I had a bubble talking about it in length. Basically, it is a rare and rather distinctive reddish-brown and white-banded rock which mines can only be found in certain region of Western Australia. The other two stones are called Jasper. The one on the top is probably commonly known as red jasper, but I still love the distinct shade of this one - perhaps a blend of red, pink and brownish colors. The one on the bottom is known as ocean jasper or technically it is an orbicular jasper - a jasper rock with variable-colored orbs or spherical zones from Madagascar. I love how each one of these stones is unique. I've been told how they are also used for healing therapies and have some metaphysical properties with certain uses and meanings. I don't even go into those things - I simply enjoy looking at their natural beauties...

So beautiful! How do you store/display them? I love looking at gemstone collections at museums . . . like at the Natural History Museum out here (the one by USC). It's amazing what designs nature came up with all on her own!

Yes, there must be some amazing displays in there... I don't really display them, just store them in jewelry bags or boxes and take them out when I feel like looking at them...

@sishy7 We don't have fancy stones, but my son LOVES taking shiny rocks to hold and bunch up and pour - he loves the feel and sound of them. That's neat too that you've made jewelry pieces out of some of yours!

Hematite... hmm, I've heard it's one of the crystals with known healing and metaphysical properties...

@sishy7 it is often considered well a battery or storage type stone, used to hold energy or spells

I love those stones too. My favourite, I think, is tiger's eye, but I also love opals (Australia is famous for opals isn't it?)

yes, Australian opals are quite well-known... I have a tiger's eye among my collection, it's brownish with some black colors...

Like you, I love natural beauty, though right now I'm mostly into wood. Do you have one of those tumblers, or whatever it is, that polishes up the stones?

The zebra rock looks closest to wood... Oh no, I'm not that intense of a collector... Just an amateur one, I'd say, a casual one who collects just for pleasure - so mostly what I have are all polished up already...

@sishy7 Ah. I like pretty rocks too. I actually had a "rock collection" as a kid. I think that was fairly common in my day--one of those "toys" (a box full of small rocks, glued down, with labels) that has educational value.

@TheHorse Pretty has a tumbler. We bought it when she was eight or nine years old. I sure got tired of hearing it running night and day, so we built a small shed to house it. IDK if she still uses it or not, since I can't hear it unless I go in the shed.

I love gemstones, too. I have a few collections and they are beautiful. I love the lavender color gem but I forgot the name of it. Now, I have to check where my gemstones are.

Chalcedony comes in various colors including light purple or lavender ones. Amethyst is probably the more common gemstone with violet shades but it is probably closer to purple instead of lavender color...

Your stones are very beautiful. Where did you find them? Is it easy? Actualy I have a big stone which looks like a pork. Since it looks interesting, so I bought it. I also have some "rain-flower" stones which I bought from Nanjing long time ago. It is hard for me to pick up a special stone from the ground here

@youless Oh, thanks for that... Wow, they are beautiful... That's a neat idea to charge what we can grab - I imagine it would be hard to choose which to buy one by one as each one is unique.

Oh, you collect piggy banks? How fun! My son used to have a huge rooster one when we lived in Indonesia. It was handmade (from clay, I think?) and it was life-sized... ... Not sure what happened to it when we left many years ago...

@SIMPLYD Now, that is a whole different kind of gemstone... That would NOT be considered semi-precious anymore. And perhaps even the most precious out of them all...

I like collecting colored stones when at the beach but don't know if they are semi-precious ones like the ones you have. I read that they have healing or some "energy" that give good vibes.
