Are you a lover of books? I am and have always been so. I remember when I started first grade and got my first reader "Dick and Jane' I carried it home and read the entire book in one sitting. Not many words were in the book and they were repeated over and over, so it wasn't that difficult.
We didn't have a lot of books at home and that was my first real experience with reading, since then I am never without an open book or two so I can read anytime I have a few minutes. I have many books I haven't yet read and still I go to the library every couple of weeks. It makes me feel good to see my unread books on the bookshelves, just waiting for me.
We went to the library today to return a load of books and bring home more. One is by Joyce Carol Oates titled "Jack of Spades." It's a thriller and I can't wait to delve into it. As of now, thrillers are at the top of my list. Oates is one of my favorite authors, and I have many favorites. What are some of your favorite books?

I didn't own a lot of books, oh but I loved going to the library whenever we could! I had a love for childrens books and carried that with me through my adulthood. Now my kids love books too - but they are bigger bookworms than I ever was (maybe because they have access to more books than I ever did).

I'm reading the Harry Potter Series at the moment. I'm in book six the Half-Blood Prince. Mostly I read Christian fiction novels - Tracie Peterson, Frank Peretti, Tim LaHaye and Jerry B. Jenkins and the Left Behind series. I also read a new author a couple years ago Bryan M. Litfin. So a bit of mystery and intrigue and historical novels. I also write my own and am working on two at the moment.

I've never read Joyce Carol Oates. She doesn't seem the thriller type writer to me.

@DaddyEvil Probably from her comments on Twitter that makes me think she's not that bright. LOL

@irishidid I see!
Yeah, I have been known to judge someone by comments they make/made. Yesterday, as a matter of fact!
Some idiot tried to tell me to mind my own business when I made a suggestion about something on a story on Wattpad. Since the author ask my opinion I thought the guy was out of line. He tried to tell me that what the author already had written was just fine for a book going into publication. Neither comment used correct English or punctuation...
I pointed those things out to him and ask which college gave him his English degree. He acted incensed! IDK why, though. I thought it was a fair question.

If you've never read any of her books, how can you tell if she is that type of writer? (Just curious!)

As I wrote on another site, I've always had my nose in a book. I taught myself to read when I was three because I'd been read to by the adults in my life as far back as I can remember. Our house was full of the books they bought for me. Since I started writing online I haven't had as much time as I like to read, but I enjoy police procedurals, biographies and autobiographies, and novels that center around wholesome families, like the Mitford Series by Jan Karon. I like some historical romances and Christian fiction. Last night I finished Memories Before and After the Sound of Music by the oldest von Trapp sister, Agathe von Trapp.

@akalinus Yes! I have the Clan of the Cave Bear series! I absolutely loved them! I wrote to her while she was writing Shelters of Stone. I got a reply back from her and she sent me the first chapter (manuscript) for Shelters of Stone.
You and I have similar tastes in books... or at least we overlap in our tastes in reading material.

Oh, yes, I sure do love books. My fantasy is having a huge library with books stacked all around me. I used to go to the library with my mothers. She and I would get stacks of books and read them. My favorites are Crawl Space by Herbert Liebermann , Where the Red Fern Grows by Wilson Rawls ( he actually came to our school when I was in the fourth grade), and To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee. There are many more but this is the top of the list. Oates is still writing?

@celticeagle The book didn't ring true to me. I have my doubts that she wrote it.

I read anything I can get my hands on except biographies and autobiographies. (If I wanted people to tell me lies about other people or themselves, I would pay more attention to gossip rags! Most of those books are fake!)
I do love good fantasy and sci-fi books, though, the best.
I buy every book Piers Anthony puts on the market, along with Holly Lisle, Anne McCaffrey and Anne Rice. (LOL! I'm a very eclectic reader!)
Welcome to myLot! I didn't realize you had finally arrived!

@irishidid LOL! @RubyHawk ask about our FAVORITE books. I LIKE your books, but they aren't my favorites... YET!
BTW, when are you going to have the new one out? Any idea yet?
You do realize I want a copy, right?

I am a book lover too, with many unread and waiting on the shelf. I am reading a Nelson De Mille book right now about Vietnam, 30 years after that war. John Le Carre is a favorite too.

@ JamesHxstatic John Le Carre is one of favourites too . And Smiley the best ever.
I also admire how after the cold war was over and that subject matter dried up Le-Carre went on to write just as well on other subjects.

@RubyHawk I am an absolute book worm.I enjoyed your post. Our grade readers were Pat and Ann if I remember correctly.
I love having unread books on my shelves and would go into shock if there were no unread books for me to read :)
Our mother would come to pick us up from school once a week and we would walk up to the public library to borrow story books.
Thank you for making the memory come alive.

I read heaps of different authors and genres. I'm lucky to have a large collection of some of my favorite sci fi and fantasy as they aren't published anymore. hubby gave me a kindle a couple of years ago, and I've used it to discover new authors from their free list. I still buy hard copy when I know it's something that I'll want to share.

I'm a book lover too. When I was child I used to read bible stories which comes in hardbound children's books. My dad also bought a set of encyclopedia together with Disney hardbound books.I read all of them and enjoy sharing with my siblings.
During College years I used to read biographies, Sci-fi and Horror books. I became fan of digital fortress and Da vinci code by Dan Brown & Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling.
And now, I started reading books like Purpose driven life by Rick Warren; You were Born Rich by: Bob Proctor; Rich Dad, Poor Dad by Robert Kiyosaki; Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill.
My goal now is to read 1 or 2 business related books per month.

I enjoy Nicholas Sparks as well as many others. I didn't begin to enjoy reading until about the seventh grade. My mom began taking me and my siblings to the library one summer every other week and we could bring home five books each. I'm the oldest of six kids. Eventually, only me and one of my sisters wanted to read, so we used the allotted books of all of us for just the two of us and read twenty-five book either weekly or over a two week period. After that summer my mom wished she hadn't done that as we never wanted to do our chores as our nose was always in a book.
I own many books, but now that I'm writing and working a lot I've found that if I'm reading too there just isn't enough time for all of it. Possibly once I'm retired, which will be six more years, I'll begin reading more once again, unless I'm writing my own books by then.
Btw, I saw your post while visiting with BarbR.

@RubyHawk I shudder. Most of the library these days are public computers and DVDs which are both great aspects. But I never see anyone looking at books for reading.
