It finally is feeling like spring here in Connecticut. I walked around my yard to get a look at what was in bloom and came across my lilac bushes. I have two, one is white and one is purple. The scent is divine. While I was over there I checked out my rhubarb, they should be ready to pick in just a couple of weeks!!

My mother was very proud of her lilac bush. She also had some rhubarb which she used to feed with sheep manure.

oh my gosh! how beautiful! i fear that i didn't get to enjoy the lilac here'n bloom, the harsh winds did'em'n 'fore they e'en got a chance to bloom 'n release that delightfully intoxicatin' scent into the air. i wish the hubs liked rhubarb, coz i'd sure grow me some. purty plant 'n mighty tasty, too!

@crazyhorseladycx Rhubarb is work free at least at my house, I just planted it many years ago and harvest it in the spring, the rest of the year I ignore it and it grow pretty much in the shade of the house.

Rhubarb is an acquired taste, I have loved it since I was a child and the fact that my grandmother was English probably accounts for it.

I have a white and a purple lilac bush and they have just finished blooming here. They quite young but already taking the shape of small trees. The white has the best flowers, I have no idea why that should be.

@BelleStarr Perhaps it's all in the soil and not in the colour.

@41CombedaleRoad My bushes are side by side so it seems that they should have the same soil but I guess you are right it could be.

You must be a bit ahead of us, our lilacs won't be out in bloom for another week or so. Yet I have been picking my rhubarb and enjoying that for the past 10 days or so. In fact it is already going to seed, so the season is pretty much over for me here. My rhubarb is an early variety.

@BelleStarr Lilac season is bittersweet to me, because it seems to be about the last spring bloom to enjoy and after that we are thrust into the heat of summer. Ugh

That one really is purple - a lot of them are a paler mauve. Growing your own rhubarb - wonderful.

Yes years ago my mother's neighbor was selling their house and they had a huge patch of rhubarb, I asked if I could dig some up and they said yes so I did and it has been happily growing at my house ever since. and the people who bought the house dug up the whole patch!! So I am glad I did

Your Spring is much later than ours. The lilacs over here are done for the year. But we are also having July temps even though it is May. Crazy world. Yum on that rhubarb.

@BelleStarr We are suddenly back to rainy May. Last week it was July. The garden vegies seem to be sucking up the moisture. Not freezing at night. Knock on a garden gnome!

Sounds like I should go check out my rhubarb. Unless it got mowed down. I forgot about it last year and never checked on it. So I'll need to do that.

Much in bloom here including lilacs, wisteria, lilies, roses and more as my brother-in-law is quite the gardener (which is good since neither my sister or I inherited Mom's green thumb) and he is planning more now that we are no longer. renters

Glad your lilacs are in bloom. The buds are coming quickly on the bush in our yard, so there should be blooms before long. You mentioning Rhubarb, makes me hungry for a rhubarb cake or pie. I can almost taste it.
