Yes, my Mom recognized me and even call me by my name. She didn't call me Sis, Mads or anyone and I'm happy to hear her calling my name. This is the first time she called me my name for a year and this happens this morning when I give her meal. I give her oats and a slice of ripe papaya, maybe she likes the ripe papaya because it is very sweet and she asked me to add some, she told me, Ida, please give me some papaya and it makes my eyes full of tears because of happiness. When she recognized me, it makes me happy even if I know it is only a temporary condition but still I love it that way. How I wish, she can recognized us all.

Awww, God Bless. It sounds like your mom has some form of dementia or Alzheimers. I know people who have that have some clear days. I am so glad she was able to recognize you, that must have made your day!

@SIMPLYD That is true, I'm glad that my Mom can communicate with us not like before, she can't. At least, she has improvements after she was hospitalized due to mild stroke.

I don't think it will happen, she can't see them frequently and the only thing she can remember when she was in her younger years, she can't even remember that she was a teacher.

@Shavkat Wow, 99 years old. I'm so proud of old persons who are still doing good even in their old age. Can she walks and eats with her own?

If she remembers you in Alzheimers then that means you have special place in her memory. :)

@ida123 yes but often many times those who are around can be forgotten too. my grandfather had this and they used to forget people who used to care around him but he used to remember face of some friend he didn;t meet for years.

@skysnap that is normal attitude to those patients with Alzheimer's, they sometimes remember that certain portion of their life like my Mom, she forgets that she was a teacher before, she only remembers her young age.

Not at all times that she remembers my name, there are times she's very alert and attentive but most of the time, she's weak and not coordinating with us.

So glad to hear that, I don't think I have talked to you since your mom became ill. My mom had a stroke and although she knows who we are, she thinks we are still small as she is living in the past. I hope one day she will be back with us in memories. Glad to know that your mama remembered your name and called you by it, that is such a great feeling.

Yes, that was so great when I heard her calling by my name even I know it is only temporary. I'm so sad to face her every now and then without knowing my name. But anyway, we can't force her to remember us.

She suffered Alzheimer's disease for almost 12 years now and that's the saddest part of our lives but anyway, we accepted it already. We are thankful that she's still with us and that's important.
