Joanne and I were just having a little chat about why people dont state their country, and before I fill the response box with lines and lines of my rant, let me just Inform you of my thoughts, right from the horses mouth!!
When I peruse the new discussions, many are new writers looking to get followings from the readers. Honestly, if there is no country stated, I dont even read it.
I like to know where the writer is from, as soon as I see the country, my mind flashes to the WORLD MAP and I have an idea of where they're at, what their time zone is, who their neighbouring countries are, their national cuisine, and even what some of their Historical sites might be.
So if you are a follower that is evasive of your Origin, then I might not be the follower to follow you! So what is your country and REMEMBER to state it in your Profile - dont just send me a note!!
Friday it is, and I have had a wonderful morning meandering around our Mall, shopping for UV Sun protective, fingerless arm gloves to wear to bowls - I found them!
Happy Day everyone

My country is already stated somewhere near my avatar just like how I know you are from South Africa. We just had an election and the new President will get the throne anytime soon. My country is the only country in the world were avocado is used for desserts.

I guess that is something to consider but you didn't give any reason why countries should be listed? I list my place of origin but don't put in personal information like some members do. I'm not against the facebook style of social media but not sure I understand why someone might be against having privacy? I can see advantages and disadvantages with both. Help me understand?

I quote from my post the reason why I like to know the person's country:
"I like to know where the writer is from, as soon as I see the country, my mind flashes to the WORLD MAP and I have an idea of where they're at, what their time zone is, who their neighbouring countries are, their national cuisine, and even what some of their Historical sites might be."
Its all about insight into world of the writer

I do like to know where everyone is from though it won't stop me sharing with someone if they don't disclose their location

I am always disappointed when I check a follower out and find that they do not give their country and sometimes not much else.

I also do not appreciate not knowing the country of the users. I have stated Switzerland, because it's where I live now, but you know that I am Italian. The two countries are close on the world map, the south of Switzerland borders Italy.

@crazyhorseladycx Oh ha ha - I let that fly over my head. I am not particularly fond of MALLS either, but I have to go there now and again for my grocery shopping. I prefer the streets of shops like in the small towns and all over Europe - its like going on an adventure

I'm not sure if it's my state or country that's listed here, but I'm proud to live in Connecticut, in New England, in the good old United States of America, land of the free where the streets are paved with gold!
Just checked. It is my wonderful country that is listed.

I agree with you and I connect the country to a person for me to easily understand her / his point of view, etc... I also like to know where a writer or member here comes from. I am from Germany but I am a Filipino expat living here for more than 3 decades.
