Today is National Apple Pie Day, and looking at this picture I found on Pixabay, made me hungry for one. I haven't made one for awhile. It is one of my favourite pies. I make mine with a bit of Stevia, lots of cinnamon, and no sugar. I have a frozen pie crust in the freezer, so maybe will pick up some apples today and make a pie. I usually freeze part of it, so that I don't eat it all at once. Do you like to make apple pie?

@AnneEJ I have a bad reaction to Stevia like I do to all the alternative, I have tried.

@BelleStarr I have no problem with Stevia, refuse to use Splenda or other artificial ones.

I used to use sugar, but trying to stay away from it. A little bit of Stevia makes it sweet enough for me.

I don't make pies, I never got the knack of making the crust properly, so I usually pick one up at the bakery when we have a craving for one. My favorite is strawberry rheubarb, although your picture of the apple pie looks awfully tempting right now!

@AnneEJ I always wanted to get good at making pie crust, but it hasn't happened yet. One of these days I'll set my mind to it and master it, I did that with home made soups.

I used to be very good at making pies, but am so out of practice, my crust doesn't usually turn out that well. So I often buy the frozen pie shells. I find that the apple pieces are too beg in the store-bought pies. I slice mine very thinly.

@jaboUK It is a natural sweetener, from a plant. It comes in powder or liquid.

I don't think I ever had it with custard. I just use cinnamon and a bit of Stevia

When you use cinnamon, you don't need much other sweetener

Believe it or not... I laden half the pie with cinnamon because that's the way I like it... no one else does :( I have never tried Stevia, but it makes sense. We eat too much sugar and it you can cut back... even better!

I haven't made an apple pie in ages but our local market has some delicious ones with a crumb topping (which is my favorite). I just might have to indulge and celebrate this apple pie day
