My youngest daughter and her numbers

Lately, my youngest daughter, who will be 3 in less than a month, has been counting more. She'll just do it by herself. She'll say 1-2-3-4-6-7-8. She doesn't seem to quite remember 5. I'll do it with her, but then when she does it again by herself, she'll skip 5. It's just kind of funny. I'm not too worried about it though. She's only 3. Well, not quite. Either way, she'll get there. It's just cute seeing her count, and skip 5.

It is heartwarming to see a toddler counting by himself or herself. I am sure she will learn it by heart in a few months time. That's really cute.

@dodo19 You can try to let her watch Baby TV. My little niece had learned so many things in this program.

Just let her say the counting and guide her until she masters it.

@dodo19 Don't force her young mind, just let her enjoy her counting.

You are right, she will eventually get it and then have her counting down pat.

She's doing very well! Some kids I've taught haven't been able to count to ten when they start school!

Then I guess she is. I'm not too worried. The 5 will come. It's just funny seeing her count and skip the 5.

@valmnz that's a good idea. I do try to encourage her as much as I can when she counts. I'll say something like "good job" or something. I'll try your technique.

@dodo19 try getting her to count to four then give a big clap or something for 5

well, maybe because four follows five so she might have thought why there are 2 first letters of numbers with F's, so she skipped the five. hahaha! just my wild imagination.

lol. I had thought of that, but not a bad thought. It could be that she thinks of four and five as the same.

aw that is so cute and funny. my 3yr old nephew recites the alphabet sometimes. he starts with letter E or N then you can imagine what follows. sometimes letting them watch those videos for kids will help them very much. whenever i try to teach him, he doesnt seem excited about it haha..

Lol. It's cute to seeing them learn. Some letters or numbers are forgotten, but they are learning and that's the important thing.

It's really cute to see young kids counting. Yes, she is still young, she will always pick up things on her own faster than we realize. I did not teach my little girl counting as well, but I think she picked it up from her elder brother. It's so funny that they seem to just miss one all the time. Mine always missed the same one too!

Yeah they pick things up from other kids or older siblings when we're not looking. It's nice to see. But they grow up too fast.

For some reason when all of my kids learned their months, October was one they missed. I have no idea why, the only way I could get them to remember it was to tell them if they skipped it, they skilled Halloween.

When my first child was a baby, Sesame Street started up on TV. It was amazing how quickly the children can learn from repetition and music and puppets...it was wonderful. Your daughter will learn to add the 5, don't worry, she is doing great for a three year old.

All kids do that when their young. It is cute, and nothing to be worried about. She will get it as she grows and keeps doing her numbers. =) With my oldest I used to worry about her not getting things but then I realized all children learn at different times-but they all learn everything they need to eventually.

I am pretty impressed that she's doing it herself. It doesn't bother me to much that she forgets a number. She is remembering quite a few, and that's a good start.
