Do you ever stop and look at all the great toys that the kids growing up today have. From the minute they are born until they leave the nest. Everything is either battery operated or electrical. I really get jealous when I go out to buy any toys for my grandsons as things today are really neat. Of course many of them I cannot even figure out so it is a good thing I don't get any of them. I have to admit that when I go shopping for my grandsons I love playing with all the things in the stores. One day I was at work and I got a call from my husband telling me about a great car for our 3 year old grandson. It was a car that had a battery. Really!!! When I got home from work I see the big car in our front yard and my little grandson driving it around. I always think, what next!!!

With the advancement of technology, toys nowadays are interactive. I myself get fascinated with them. But my son still loves collecting lego toys.

@toniganzon I love legos. My kids had them and my grandsons too. I loved all the holidays when the kids got new toys as I was the first to play with them.

@ramapo17 Me too! I still enjoy playing with toys. I enjoy them more than playing games on a computer.

@judyEv I always loved going shopping for my grandsons when they were little. I would turn on all the toys that made noise. My husband wouldn't go shopping with me any more.

@JudyEv My husband feels like you do as I will go and start up all the toys that talk or make any kind of noises. I think it brings back the kid in me.

@amadeo That is the way it was with my family. I was born in 1942 and dad went to Germany in WWII. Times were rough then and kids now think things are rough. My parents always tried to give us the best then and we never expected anything as we were never use to anything.

A kid just needs a few playthings and a great imagination. A doll, a ball, a big bunch of blocks or Legos, a wagon, a toy truck, some playdough. Let a child get creative with a few toys. You can build villages with rocks, sticks and mud. There is no limit.

@ramapo17 Yes and our parents were not charged with neglect if we went outside. We were supposed to playing outside or in our room. I had a room because I was the only girl.

@akalinus You were lucky to have your own room. I had to share one with my sister and we never got along. She is 4 years younger and a very difficult person to get along with anyone. We haven't spoken in 3 years, since my dad passed.

I've seen those. They are neat. When my kids were little, life was so much simpler. I got the toys that didn't run on batteries so they would always be able to play with them.

@ramapo17 I just remembered my brother had one of those cars, only his had the pedals in it to make it go, not a battery powered one like today. Yes, those were the days of fun imagination.

I don't remember having a lot of toys in childhood. I did get a doll when I was five years old. We made our own fun with whatever we could find.

@AnneEJ My parents didn't have a lot of money either but they always managed to get us enough presents under the tree.

I personally think that kids get way too many toys these days.

@marlina Of course they do. Between the parents and grandparents it has been this way for years. On any holiday we would put some of the toys the kids got away and brought them out little by little through the year. It worked great.
