A Masterpiece?

Last Thursday night we had a painting class at our church. We have a very talented artist in our group, and she agreed to show us some techniques. Yesterday, I got an e-mail with this picture that was taken of my finished work. It does not look quite like the one we were trying to imitate, but we had fun doing it. I don't intend to try and sell it, that's for sure. Some of the children did a much better job than I did. It was fun to learn what colours to mix together and how to apply them to make different effects on the canvas. Amazing what we can do when we have a good teacher and are willing to follow instructions. So, laugh if you want, but this really is a butterfly (in my eyes).

Not only do you have the picture, and the picture of you with the picture, you also have the good memories of the evening with friends.

Lol! Leave it to me to think it was a bird! I do love the mass of flowers. What fun you must have had! I enjoy painting, but haven't done it in years.

I know, when I look at it I see a bird too. I made the body too large, but wasn't able to fix it.

That makes sense @AnneEJ it's how we learn. I hope you do another one someday, I'll bet it'll turn out just as you want.

There is nothing to laugh about, you went to the class, you tried, and you should be applauded.

Totally agree with Peter here @pgiblet, I think your butterfly looks a lot more like a butterfly that my attempt would ever do.

Thank you. I am hoping she will have some more classes. It was a lot of fun. There were about 30 of us, so you can imagine how different all the pictures looked.

@marlina One of the girls said she showed her picture to her mother, and she said, "What is it?"

I think your butterfly has potential . . . Beauty is in the eye of the beholder - you could even put " The Scream by Edvard Munch. “ to shame.

@AnneEJ I love the way it pops out with the dainty little flowers in the background. A true Picasso in the making!

I guess people would call me a perfectionist, l am too hard on myself. But I know that my creative skills lie elsewhere than painting. I do much better with a needle and thread

It is lovely and you should hang it in your home with pride. One of our daughters is a teacher, but she initially was an art major in college. She loves to go to these types of events and create works of art.

@AnneEJ Improvement comes with practice doesn't it? But I guess talented people don't need so much practice.

Yes, the lady who taught us is very talented. Her son is also. He was sitting beside me and I saw his picture, it was very good. But he has been doing it for a lot of years.
