Have a lot of photos? Make some extra money with stock photography!

I've made nearly $100 in a little over a year with stock photography. I only have about 250 photos up. The more photos you put up, the more potential you have to earn. Once the photos are up, you just sit back and wait for the money to come in. http://www.bigstockphoto.com/?refid=gyD1FGl9wP

This is good to know. I have never posted photos before but this idea will give me a chance to learn how. I've got quite a few photographs of places I've been and I always considered myself a pretty good photographer. When I travelled to Nepal I carried three cameras....color prints, color slides and black and white. Have some good ones near the Chinese border. Who knows might be worth it. Thanks so much.

Check out the link and see some more info on it. Or ask me a specific question and I'll let you know. The minimum payout is $30 there. But the cool thing is, even if they don't approve your photos initially, you don't have to wait again to submit more photos, you can just keep trying (some sites make you wait 3 months to try again).

Batch payment? I've made $16 this month. I have over 250 photos up currently. I'd say you really need to put up 100 photos to see some decent earnings. But hey, it's like free money and takes far less time than MyLot. Website designers and others buy the photos. You can also allow your photos to be used in computer games, brochures, on t-shirts, etc. and will get paid more money if you do.

No problem! I know a lot of people are here looking for other ways to make money and just wanted to help out and share a legitimate way I know of and have tried.

Any particular type of photos they're looking for? Do you make money from each time a photo is used, or just a one-time sale to the site?

They have a list of photos up on what they're looking for. Holiday photos tend to be popular, as do photos of people if you can get modelling releases. You get commission from a photo each time it is sold.

I wish you the best of luck with it! I found that as soon as I had 100 photos up I really started noticing more significant income coming in.

It's not for everyone, but thanks for looking! I don't usually take photos just for them to go up, I use what I already have so that it ends up being like free money for me.

Photos of people, including children, are very popular. If they're your own kids, it'll be easy for you to fill out the modeling release. Unfortunately, I still don't know anyone who will let me take photos of them to put on there. If someone would sign modeling releases for wedding photos, I'd even give a discount! But so far, no takers.

You're welcome! I had a hard time finding a place for stock photography too, so I wanted to share and help people find a money making method. :) It's pretty fun too. I also like that they comment on your work if it doesn't get accepted and help you to learn what you should improve on.

Yes, it really works! It can take time at first to sell a few photos. But the more you upload, the better the chance you have. And once you've got a bunch up, all you have to do is sit back and bring in the residual income. :)

Anything i can do to make a littl eextra money is good to me! Especially if you don't have to sit around doing anything! Royalties are a good thing! And I do digital photography as a hobby, so hey, I have a bunch already.

Very cool! That's how I feel, I love just sitting around earning money and not having to do something. After I uploaded the photos initially, I didn't need to put more up unless I wanted to. I've been at 250 or so for quite some time now and tend to make $16 a month off that. $16 extra dollars per month for photos I would have taken anyway. I also make money with writing, but then I actually have to write stuff (although, I can use school papers I've already written).

This looks to be a reasonable concern. However, I would urge anyone thinking of joining to read the Tutorial, Terms of Service and Conditions very thoroughly. DO NOT skip over the Terms of Service when signing up. Copyright laws with respect to photos are complicated and you do not want to find that you are giving away more than you intended to. I am not saying that these people are out to rip you off but especially when you put your property on the Internet for other people to sell, you want to be absolutely sure that you are not signing away more than you intend to. If you are unsure, then stay away. I know that website design is not a reliable guide to a company's reputation but I have seen better, cleaner designs and if I were a customer, I think I would tend to be put off buying by this website's home page.

I had a further look at the site. The photos they have are high quality, so I would feel confident about submitting photos to the site (there is good quality control). You would need to be able to match that quality to stand a chance of selling anything, I think. If you like taking photos but feel that your photos lack that sparkle, you could do well to invest in a course on photography, either online or at a local further education centre. The cost could well be recouped by putting your successes on a site like this.

You can always try, it won't hurt! They'll also give you advice on what to improve if your photos aren't accepted. And you can keep trying again with different photos (some places deny you for up to 3 months.)

Wow that's great! So my current 1024X768 would be fine then? I'm getting quite excited about this :) Looks fantastic - I've been browsing the other photo's and they all look professional and slick. Are you a professional photographer - or just a hobby?
@Pigglies (9329)

28 Nov 06
Yes, that would be fine. It says that photos must be at least 800 pixels either wide or high (so as long as one of the numbers is greater than that, it's fine). So no more photos at only 640x480. But larger is fine. I'm mostly just a hobby photographer. :) But I did work as a pet photographer for about 6 months. I'd love to work as a photographer again, but now I'm a bit wary of photography companies after the last one didn't pay me $1,600. :(

You know, they used to accept photos down to 640x480. However, I think now it is 1600x1200. If you have a 3 megapixel camera, you should be able to submit photos. I used to have a very nice 2 megapixel camera (still have it actually), and they accepted a lot of those photos even though they are small. However, on small photos you only get 50 cents commission per photo (not bad, they just recently changed to give more money for larger photos). On larger photos if someone wants the large version, you get $1 commission from it. That's per time someone downloads your photo. I've had several photos downloaded more than once and one downloaded I think 11 times. They've got people on there with photos that have been downloaded 100 times. Even at 50 cents they'd have made $50 from a single photo. Best of luck!
