There is nothing wrong with learning from a teacher who has more experience than you. It's great to be able to learn from someone else's mistakes, get insights and try new things you haven't thought of before. But you really do have a say and need to be present for yourself. Don't just blindly do what someone says to do. Not even the order I just gave. :) I have tried in the past to do things someone else's way who I thought knew better, only utilizing their ideas and no one else's, and certainly not my own. This can be damaging no matter who you're working with and listening to. I saw a doctor for a physical chronic issue. She "prescribed" certain herbs and told me not to take anything else. Well, although she called herself a holistic doctor, the regimen didn't include anything to help with the deep depression I'd been feeling that came with a recently suffered trauma at the time. Her advice on that was to find myself a holistic therapist...as if such things grow on trees, particularly for the low income population. I had been taking a regimen of supplements that was very slowly and gradually helping with my depression. It was at least starting to lift some and I could finally stay awake past 5pm again. But after being advised...or more like, ordered by this doctor, I went off of those supplements. This is one example of such behavior for me, believing 'they' know right. And not taking my own thoughts and feelings about my own body into much consideration. Or if I did, I ignored myself. Most of the time now, when I read, watch or listen to something, I can usually catch myself and take what resonates and then fill in my own blanks when appropriate. I struggle with this though when it comes to finding, or more like discovering an eating style that is right for me. I don't have the best relationship with food but that's another topic really. I will listen to and watch videos of vegans, paleo people, keto eaters, etc. And I will be inspired by all of them. Problem though is I walk away confused, overwhelmed and then paralyzed. But here's the thing: What works for one person won't necessarily work for someone else. So if someone is telling you that their way is the only way, or that you're doing it wrong because you don't feel good on the way they say you must eat, you might want to take a step back and listen to your own mind and intuition. And if you need help in some area of your life, via coach, doctor, teacher, etc, then find one who understands the principle I just described above. Take care of you.
