I know how you feel, my mom and him were the same way - he likes Rush, she likes Tracy Chapman and the Wailers, go figure... :) I seem to have taken on a little of both, and everything in between, from Rush to Tori Amos to Pat Benatar and Billy Idol to India Arie. Music is music, some just sounds better than others! :)

I love Rush. Have since I was a kid. They have good thoughtful lyrics to go along with the great sound of their music.

Yep, Subdivisions is a good one! I like your take on high school too.
My favorite is probably Hemispheres. I like 2112 too. See a theme here? I liked how they used a whole side of the album to tell a single story. It was innovative, and very effective.

My dad used to always go hide out in his room & "smoke" when he listened to it, it drove my mom nuts. She still can't stand to hear Rush, I feel sorry for her, I think it's a great band!

Exactly! I like "Subdivisions", it's a really honest outlook of what high school is like. I hated every minute of high school, nobody was there to learn, it was always to be cool, & the end result was ending up pregnat. Sorry, not the route for me!

Rush was actually in Kansas City last year ('bout an hour from me) but I didn't have enuf $ at the time to get tickets - probably missed my last chance ever to see them play! :(

Yes, ever since I heard 2112 in the 70's I have been a fan, and nobody compares to "The Professor" on the drums.

Ah, bad news, I don't think I'm going!!! :( Lots of crying! My sister won't pick me up an hour away at like 2 in the morning which is when I'm assuming the show will end, my boyfriend doesn't like Rush (*TRAITOR!*) and I don't have a driver's license or a car - BUMMER

I cannot wait to see the show in August (I just found out yesterday)!!! I have never seen them before & I am so excited about it! It's going to cost about $75 for the tickets and another $60 to get a cab from the show to my sister's house (a 25 mile ride) but I don't care, I'd easily pay $200 to see Rush before I don't have another chance!

Well enjoy the show! I haven't seen them, but I have heard that they are one of the best shows ever. I am sure your money will be well spent.

I like Rush a lot, but until the other day when I got their new CD, Snakes and Arrows, all I had was a mix CD of some of their songs on it. 2112 is probably the best one I've heard, but Tom Sawyer and the Spirit of Radio are really good, too. I'm defnitely going to get more of their stuff.

How is Snakes and Arrows? I haven't heard it yet. I like Spirit of Radio and Subdivisions the most.

That's too bad...maybe I'll just listen to it at Hastings b/4 I buy it...that's sad that I would say something about a band I love but I don't want to waste my money. Like when I bought Tori Amos' "The Beekeeper" for almost $30, she is one of my favorite singers but it wasn't worth it.

It's pretty good, but I don't like it as much as their older stuff. It's a bit slower paced and not as upbeat. There are also a lot of acoustic parts, and they don't really solo anymore.

I guess you know by now that a New album is out and tour is about to begin. And I think your in luck. Verizon Wireless Amphitheater Aug. 23/07.
Looks like I'll have to drive the 800 + miles to come to that show, seeing that they are not coming to Winnipeg again this tour.

You're going to the show in Kansas City (well actually Bonner Springs). Cool! I'll be there too I got an email yesterday about it and I was hyper all day long b/c of it. I actually got on my bf's nerves ha ha b/c he's like "I'm not going, why do I have to hear all about it?" BECAUSE I told him I am super excited! I was like a kid on Christmas, I can't wait!

Yeah, I'm looking forward to checking it out - I heard one of the songs on the radio the other day and it didn't sound ANYTHING like the Rush I knew, so I think I'm going to preview it before I buy it, just in case. I love Rush, but I don't like ALL of their stuff.

Rush was my first concert. I was a junior in high school. I think they are awesome. I spent many hours in my basement listening to 2112!

That's cool!! They were playing at Verizon Ampitheater last year or the year before, but I couldn't afford tickets! It's probably the last time I would have gotten to see them (and I have NEVER seen them). I did get this DVD that came with one of my CD's, though (man, that blonde guy had long hair! I think it was either Subdivisions or
The one in the picture is on my wish list for my birthday!:)

Oops, I hit "post comment" too soon! I think the blonde guy (I don't know all their names), anyway, he was doing the video where they are recording in the studio, and he had some LONG hair, but I think it was Subdivisions or Closer to the Heart, I can't remember. Those are my 2 favorite songs, though.

I think I've been raised this way, too...
Dad loves Rush so much that he gave me almost half of the money I spent on my bass guitar.
Right now I'm listening to Red Barchetta, love it =]
But my favorites are Natural Science, 2112, La Villa Strangiato and both Cygnus X-1 =]

Oh, awesome, check out Beekman! That was one of the first TV shows I remember watching ever. That and MTV, the first video I ever saw was "Again" by Janet Jackson, where she and her reggae lover are kissing in the rain. That's wierd. Are you from the 80's generation or older? I love Subdivisions best.

La Villa Strangiato is the best song ever! EVER! Also, I always like some of their more obscure tunes like Witch Hunt and Vital Signs. And anything from Grace Under Pressure.

I can't believe there is only 1 discussion on Rush. Truly one of the best bands out there. Here is a funny story, I was in a meeting and my agent called my cell phone, my ringtone is the guitar chorus from Tom Sawyer and the other people in the meeting were all, "Was that Rush?" It was only on for like 4 seconds and people knew it. They must be very memorable for people to get that from 4 seconds.

God, is my discussion seriously the only one? Wow, I feel special! *grin*
Everyone knows Tom Sawyer! It's not my favorite song (I like "Closer to the Heart"), but I like it. My b/f calls it "tree service music" b/c that's the kind of music the guys in the truck play while they're working, he does tree work and landscaping.

wow thats a dedicated fan! ive been into Rush since the age of 12, my cousin introduced them to me. The first album I heard was Hemisheres. I play bass guitar and regularly practice to rush (keeps me on my toes).I have all studio albums and most live ones now.
The latest in my collection was the R30 dvd and cd collectors set, it was well worth buying (from ebay £15).

I'm a huge fan also! Never used to be until I saw them live and they just blew my mind! I remember that
first show so clearly; I didn't even want to go-teenage personal reasons I won't bore anyone with, but I dragged my feet in anyway-lasers and moving pictures and giant, inflatable dancing rabbits, oh, my! (It was the "Presto" tour.) Since then I've grabbed up almost every album and video compilation.
Looking very much forward to the new album and tour, hopefully they'll make it back through the midwest.
