Honest I walked into a Pole!

So embarassing! I have this rather obvious cut on my forehead that can't really be hidden. It has prompted many questions at work today. I had to admit that I walked into a pole on the weekend. No there wasn't any alcohol involved, nor a mobile phone - all down to my own stupidity. My daughter wanted to walk the dog up the road to the supermarket so I decided that a little bit of exercise would do us all some good. It had been a stormy night and it was still very windy so it was a great excuse to get some fresh air between storm fronts. All the way up the road, the wind kept whipping my hair around my face, but I'm used to walking around half blind from fly away hair so I just let it go. When we got to the supermarket, my daughter wanted to stay outside with the dog while I went in to get the milk. At the last moment, I turned back to leave a bag with her - hair still whipping all over my face, looking down into the bag, and wham - I banged into this metal support pole. . When I looked up, I said to my daughter "That will leave a bump" and she just said "Mum you're bleeding". I put my hand up thinking it would be a little cut but nooooo the blood was pouring down my face.. I walked into the supermarket clutching my forehead and the wonderful shift supervisor rushed to my rescue. I must have looked like I'd been attacked so I had to assure him and half the store that it was a simple accident. He cleaned me up and bandaged it a little overzealously with two, inch wide, bright blue plasters that did everything but shriek 'mayhem and stupidity here'. I was determined to get the milk before I went home, so I rushed around the shop with dried blood on my hands and neck and a glowing blue forehead. Judging by the strange looks I was getting it must have looked a bit macabre. We made it home and I swapped the bright blue for a plain white bandage for the rest of the day, which wasn't much better. Yesterday I tried a flesh coloured one, but still everyone stared. So today I just took the plaster off and hoped that it would be less obvious. It worked to a degree, but I've had to suffer through the old 'walked into a door' jokes all day. But then again I did walk into a door a couple of years ago......

That's the sort of dumb thing I would do. I once tripped on the steps at work when the toe of my shoe caught in the hem of my other trouserleg. I ended up in hospital having my knee skin glued back together and got a horrible scar.

People never seem able to believe that you actually walked into a door do they? They suspect domestic violence at worst and I-don't-know-what-else at best.

@JudyEv people are constantly being warned to keep a look out for the signs of domestic violence that they do get paranoid and nothing you can say will change the conclusion they reach.

@bwjsdems I have a friend whose daughter was reported to social services by a teacher after her arms were covered in scratches. They thought she was self-harming. She had a new kitten.

The important thing is you are not injured seriously.

@marlina Thankfully it cleaned up well. So far avoiding the angry, red, infected look.

I can understand your embarrassment - I always feel stupid if I hurt myself. I hit my face on an open window a while ago and had to endure the silly comments about my husband beating me up

Such things do happen if you are little careless or may be something else is running on your mind. This is quite dangerous also as sometimes it might be little more negative for you. so be careful and don't be absent minded.Though i have come across such incidents before, but now i am very careful

@alienstar My problem is that I often try and multi task and that usually results in me not paying proper attention to where I am going.

Oh my goodness hope you are okay other than the obvious mark on your forehead. Once when I was swimming in a swimming pool I rammed right into the steps and had a black eye well you can imagine what people thought and I was the joke at work as no one believe my story about the steps.

Accidents will happen. I know that feeling because I have bumped my head before and had to wind up explaining to people how it happened. Don't worry about it. As long as you're okay, that is all that matters.

@inertia4 My best one was when a friend and I were walking our dogs. She yanked on her leash to stop the dog pulling and the catch came of the collar and the retractable leash whipped up and hit me above the eye.

Hope now when it is windy you go out with your hair in a tight ponytail at the back.I think it is better to give a faint smile when people ask about the wound. No body is going to believe you.Get well soon.

@silvermist The problem is that my fringe doesn't reach to the pony tail. nothing less than a hairband will keep it out of my eyes.

@bwjsdems Yes,that is a problem. Then you have to use a hairband. It is better than walking into poles.

Nasty cut, it could have been worse though. And I get how annoying it can get when people around you ask what happened. Last year I had to repeat the same story for almost a month about how I broke my left arm.

Ouch, that must have hurt. It reminded me of when I backed the car into a huge post in an underground car park.

Eina as we say it in Afrikaans, or OUCH bloody hell that must be sore in English - Once I walked into the door frame at night, hit my head and just went to sleep - woke with a horrid bruise on my forehead - that was very hard to explain.
