Bathroom Library

When I was a kid I loved to read. Heck, I still love to read. But I learned something when I was about ten years old: I didn't have to limit my reading to those times when I was at a desk, laying on my bed, or lounging on the couch. I could read in the bathroom, too! I remember suddenly becoming observant and noting that my mom had a book on the back of the toilet. The math added up in my mind and, click a whole new way of life was born! As a mother, this knowledge has been a life-saver. I can run to the bathroom with a book and, depending on the crazy level in the house, spend a good 15 or 20 minutes lost in whatever adventure I'm reading. So when I saw the above picture on iwastesomuchtime.com, well, I couldn't un-see it. I told my hubby that a library bathroom MUST be added to our wish list for that future dream home that we want to build. Someday. When we figure out how to use a hammer and nails... Then all I'll need is a fridge and I won't ever have to leave the bathroom. Be still, my heart!

I guess there is no longer a need to bring in a newspaper?

Only if you want to read the news. Or we could have a magazine section, science section, newspaper section, children's section....

I love the picture, but have to say that I have never been a bathroom reader.

I don't think I would have been, either, if not for my mom.

@Genipher My brother-in-law is a bathroom reader, trouble is that is the only time he reads. When I go there it is purely functional, get in, do the business, get out.

@pgiblett I could go more in-depth about why I sit so long on the Throne but it would fall under the TMI category. So I'll just leave it be.

Yeah, in this sort of situation it's usually best if the hubby is on board.

If you are very quiet the kids will never notice.....the cats and the dog do though.

I have to disagree with you. I think the kids secretly installed some kind of trigger or alarm on the toilet seat. As soon as I sit down, the fights and arguing starts in the other room. Or maybe they sense some kind of disturbance in the force. "I sense...mom is in the bathroom! Let's go stand outside the door and ask her questions!" Our dog is afraid of the bathroom. One too many baths in the tub, you know. She'll hardly step foot down the hallway. So I'm safe from her bathroom stalking.

@Genipher Ahh so that is my problem, we have a separate toilet so no bath anxiety. My kids tend to save their best arguments for when I am on the phone nowadays.

My sister did a lot of bathroom reading. Multitasking for her. I wasn't a book work so you won't see me reading often.

I have always loved to read too. I never cared for reading in the bathroom until later in life. I do love books in any form such as physical, audio, or electronic. I also never thought about having a library in the bathroom. A fridge would be unique too though I do not think I would eat in the bathroom much. I am glad the bathroom is an escape for you and I hope you do build your bathroom library someday. Lots of people have books or magazines in the bathroom.

Thank you! I think it would be fun for guests, as well. They could just sit there and peruse the book titles. You can tell a lot about a person by the books that line their shelves!

Oh, what a brilliant idea. You could have several books on the go at the same time.

I think I would like a little less library and a little more bathroom lol, but I still love the idea. One problem I see is that everyone would take much longer in the bathroom. Nobody would want to come out.

@Genipher I believe you have found the solution to suit everyone lol I like the idea of naming each bathroom according to genres.

@Katlynn Yeah! We could even have cute little plaques above the doors.

That would be a problem...Well, only for people who like to read. But still...the only solution would be to install a bunch of half baths/half libraries to accommodate everyone's needs. Then it would be okay if nobody wanted to come out, right? Oh! And we could name the different bathrooms according to the genre of books inside. It would have to be a half/bath and half/library because the shower would probably create too much steam/condensation for the books to stay healthy.

I really love reading and wish to have my own library at home like a special room only for books. But, I never could imagine to have one in the bathroom.

It could be a little awkward directing guests to the bathroom, if they want a book to read.
