Which do you prefer – real books or e-books (electronic books)?

I love reading. Rather, I am a voracious reader. I read anything and everything that I can get my eyes on – from carton boxes of food, ingredients of toiletry products, medicines, labels in food containers, recipes, online information, you name it, I will read it.
I even tried reading a self-motivational book on Speed-reading while I was in college, so that I can read and learn more. I can say I am a relatively faster than average reader.
If you ask me what my preferred reading materials are – its fiction. I have read hundreds of books, real books. I love the feel and smell of books – old and new. But I read fast, especially if it’s a suspense or a story I cannot put down (usually until the wee hours of the morning). I usually finish them in two or three days. At most one day, for novels that are 100 to 200 plus pages.
I used to read real books. However, in this age of technology, I have moved on to using e-readers like the Nook (with glowlight, so I can read with the lights off) for the past three years, and lately, my smartphone.
I prefer reading e-books now because they are lighter, and I have so many at hand without the burden of carrying so many books. I dread that feeling of finishing a book and then, I don’t have another on hand to read after it, particularly when I am outside the house. This is when the e-books stored in my smartphone can come in handy.
Sometimes, I still read real books. Two weeks ago, I just read "The Lost Years of Merlin, by T.A. Barron". It took me 10 days to finish it because of the small prints. I could not speed read it because I got eye strain just reading it. This made me appreciate e-books more, when I could have adjusted the fonts and made them bigger. So, e-books win for me hands down. ^____^

@silvermist I never knew the British Council Library carry large print books. We have a British Council Library here in the Philippines. Too bad it is in another city and more than an hour from where I stay. I may try it sometime.

Honestly, I prefer the real books. I do have an e-reader, have used it from time to time, and I've enjoyed using them, but I still prefer the real books. I might slowly make the transition and transfer more books to our iPad, or something, but it's hard to give up some my books. I like those paperbacks and hardcovers.

I agree with you Dominique. I love real books too. In my old home, I had so many collection of real books which I have read and re-read when I was a bit younger.
I can still read from real books, but only those printed in larger fonts, otherwise I get a sever headache and eye strain.

Oh wow, the way you describe it, you must have an awesome collection of books. You can create a home library. I like that.
Your eyesight may still be good, much as I like printed books, my eyes fail me. I always have eye strain and a migraine each time I read small printed books.

@sunbeams Thanks.Mine is already a home library consisting of about 400 books. My eye sight is also in a good condition,I can read newspapers without the aid of glasses. But yes,now I lack space.Traditional, printed books cover space, and that's the minus point with them.

I've always been a real book kinda fella until a few years ago when I abruptly stopped reading books. The main reason being a huge life change. I've spent so much time reading and researching everything on my computer. Over these past several years 5 percent of what I read is in hard print. Mostly, menus at restaurants lol.
Through this time period I've missed reading but I'm no spring chicken and should've started wearing glasses around 4 or 5 years ago. I stubbornly avoided glasses using the excuse that I can read just fine on the computer. Especially when I enlarge the text LOL.
It took the love of the best woman in the world to show me the light, literally. I was gifted a tablet by my wife. She uses her phone to read ebooks and swears by the app, Aldiko. I gave Aldiko a look and found it very versatile and user friendly, including my favorite feature, adjustable text size.
I haven't begun reading from my tablet yet, because I'm finishing a paperback but can hardly wait to dive into the world of ebooks. I'm a convert and haven't even read an ebook yet.

Thanks for sharing. I share your kinship - conversion to e-books. Hope you finish reading your current paperback so that you can finally read on your much-loved tablet.
I use Aldiko on my smartphone too. Its a very dependable app. I have never wanted any other app e-reader since I started using it. ^____^

You remind me of myself with regards to book reading during my younger years. Unwilling to put down the book and reading until the early morning hours. It's the reason why I wear glasses today. I hardly read books nowadays unless it is to research through some of the books I still keep, some that are over 50 years old. But for most of the news and information I get it through the internet. Times change and we adapt to it.

I most certainly prefer ebooks since it's so convenient. Kindle ebooks is just my favorite and I read nonfiction books. I have real books the only thing I don't like is it stays in the bookshelf after I'm reading it. You read it once then after that you can't do much with it. I don't like collecting real books. Kindle books is much better for me.
