Annulment in the Church is now free

June 7, 2016 9:21pm CST
Just this morning when I arrived here in the office and open my PC to check some news-feed on my Facebook account, I found an article saying “Church Annulment process will be simplified and free of charge” it was actually shared by my Facebook friend. I read it and found that there are a lot of people especially here in the Philippines who want their marriage to be annulled and so happy about the news. With that good news, I have some questions regarding it and I don’t know who can answer it freely. I know an Attorney knows the answer but I need to pay for their consultation. That’s too expensive. Well here they are. 1. Does this mean that attorney is also free of charge or only the process of annulment? 2. Is this only applicable to Roman Catholics? What about those who married in a Christian Ceremony? Like the initiator is a Pastor? 3. If you are married in Civil first and married again in the church, and your church marriage is annulled, do you still need to have your civil marriage to be annulled before you can marry again? There are a lot of poor people who want’s their marriage to be annulled but cannot afford the expenses. I they will ask those who are in Public Attorney’s Office (PAO), some of them won’t entertain you unless you give something to them. I have a friend who worked hard just to give his wife everything she needed but at the end she got pregnant with a different man. He decided to be separated with his wife. He wanted to file an annulment but he cannot since he does not have that money. Now that he found a new family, he wanted to marry the woman she loves now but he cannot. With this, how can this be a help? image from(

I would have no idea about this since my husband and I are happily married and do not plan on annulling or divorcing each other.

wow! that's great! I wish you two to be together forever (even if they say forever does not exist but to those who are full of love it does)

I'll give you an answer based on what I have learned from when I was still a student. In case you have forgotten, our Constitution explicitly stated that there's a separation of church and state. Which means that the annulment from church is entirely different from annulment from the court. Which also means that different sectors of religion have different policies on annulment. What you might have read is regarding Catholic church and whatever canons of law they're observing is not being observed by other sectors of church. If your catholic church marriage was annulled you can't get married until and unless an annulment granted by the court is done. Which means, under the law you can be held criminally liable for Bigamy in case you get married again. So if you ask me which is better? It's better to be annulled in court than be annulled by the church.

Ok.. Thank you for the clarification. Atleast I got answers for free. :-). But I want to ask, which is more difficult civil or church annulment? I mean they say that Civil marriages are easy to annulled while other say its the CHurch.

Whoa! I never realized that the Roman Catholic changed its doctrines to annulment issue. I had known it is not allowed when married in the church to be annulled.

@Shavkat you disagree with what? with having the Church Annulment to be free?

@ahann_coy That's nice. Thanks for the information. In my opinion, I totally disagree with this kind of action.

@ahann_coy I don't like the idea of having annulment of the marriage.
