The Race Is On

The race is, how much food will we lose in the refrigerator before the appliance store takes their head out of their wazoo.
We had trouble with this refrigerator last year. We ended up setting a fan in front of it to keep it cool enough, not to spoil food. This year even with a fan on it, it is still sixty degrees, food is going to go soon. So, last weekend, with this knowledge in mind, we headed for the appliance store to..... ugh, lay out $$ we did not have for a new one. Fortunately, we hit a sale and that helped soften the impact a bit.
As my stinky luck would have it, they did not have one in stock, but the salesman assured us that they would have one by Saturday, maybe before. Friday night we got recording call, that they would be bringing it between 9-11AM Saturday morning, woohoo. My luck was still holding, the frig was warm but no food loss.
I got up that morning feeling on top of the world. We did not lose any food and the frig would show up soon.
You know how this works, when you think things are going well, something has to mess it all up.Well, It did. We soon got a call that they did not have a refrigerator in stock. There is not even one in the state. eekkk! We got another after that, "the I am going to act like this is your fault not mine" call. The young man that sold us the refrigerator said that we had ordered the display model and he did not think we really wanted it since it looked rough and he would, just out of the goodness of his heart, order us a brand new one. Yes dingus, I paid full price for a dinged up, scratched up, looks like it was run over by a train, floor model!! NOT!
So, we went into town, informed the little man that he should cough up a refrigerator within the next couple hours.......... or else. Within one hour he called and said he was on his way to our house with a refrigerator. I don't know where he got it, don't care, it came out of a box and was new.
So we finally got the refrigerator, no food spoiled and I do not have to spend another summer with a fan blowing on the frig. I can put it back in the window where it belongs.
It should not have been so much work, but it is behind us now. Have you had something that should have been simple, turn into a mess? I hope You all have a beautiful day.

That sure sounds like an ordeal, but at least you got your new fridge without food loss. When our fridge went, it got warm enough that our food spoiled. I found that out because one of my daycare kids got sick from the milk (thankfully he didn't get really sick, just an upset stomach). We had to toss all our food and get a new fridge.

@mom210 When our fridge quit working it didn't quit completely. It still cooled the fridge, but not enough, so the milk spoiled slowly and he had it as it started to spoil. It was good enough to not taste horrible or smell horrible, but bad enough his stomach didn't like it.

Your daughter is precious! My granddaughter will be 8 tomorrow (6/11). Glad you finally got a new refrigerator after all that. And yes, nothing is simple anymore. It seems we have problems with many things. Right now, it's the deck staining.

Of course, such is life. But I make a point at working to simplify things. If my fridge started to give me problems, I would have replaced it much sooner, but first, I would have worked at emptying it of food, and eaten out.

@ElizabethWallace The only time we can do really well eating out, is when they feed the kids for free, but even then we have to be careful what the bigger ones eat. If I do a buffet early in the day and tell them I am not feeding them lunch or supper, so eat lots, we do well too.

@mom210 There are several places near where I live that I can dine out at about the same cost as eating at home. This is probably because there is only one of me, and I don't eat much at any one time.

I bought a washing machine that leaked on my floor, when I complained the idiot in the store said...its in your basement isn't it? I loudly in the store yelled " I don't care if it's on the roof, I want it fixed. The owner came out of his office and I explained the repair man was out three or four times and it still leaks.. The woman who said that..its in your basement and her husband(the repair man) were both fired, they were billing every visit to my house , and many others...

Car repairs. Years ago, I took my van in to have two tires replaces. A spring replaced (the broken spring had punctured the tire) while they were at it the serpentine belt needed to be replaced and oh, it needed an oil change. Two days later, my husband drove me to pick up the car.....he paid the bill... I pulled out of the parking lot.....made it 500 feet down the road. The engine seized. They had forgotten to replace the oil.....now I ask...does this oil change include oil?

I am glad you have your fridge. We had a similar frustrating experience when we bought new furniture. My husband stayed home all day for the delivery. Phoned finally and they promised it the next day. He phoned at the end of that day, they said "We don't deliver on this day of the week," So he was so mad they had promised it on a day they don't do deliveries. He almost cancelled the new furniture! No food was in danger of spoiling in our case.

Seems like they should have had a lot of practice at selling them, but acted like this was the very first one they had ever sold in their lives. I am happy with it, this one works and keeps the food cold, and it is all thankfully behind me now.
