Is it a good idea to convert old airplanes into hostels or hotels?

In this modern world that we live in, things change too fast. Coping up is the way to fit in. There is also a comfortable place to stay while traveling. I wanted to experience to stay in an aircraft that is being turned into suites. I had read that in 2008, a Jumbo Hostel is opened and it is considered the world’s first hostel inside an airplane. It’s an ideal place for travelers who want a unusual experience on a trip. What’s the most unusual place you have ever stayed at while on a trip?

This would be interesting. I always thought it would be nice to visit the hotel that is made of ice.

That just sounds way too cold for me. I've spent time in an underground home, including sleeping. It was extremely comfortable even though I am claustrophobic.

@JudyEv I like that too. I heard there is a Cotton Castle but I am not sure if they have places for accommodation.

@MsTickle Was that in Coober Pedy? I so want to go there one day. I want to know where the toilet flushes to and what do they do with their rubbish.

@infatuatedbby Many international airports have small hotels inside the transit area in the airport. They are so convenient. You pay for the number of hours you want to sleep or just relax. Usually 6 or 8 hours. ‹(°¿°)›

I think it would look cool. But an airplane is so huge, where can they possibly put it? And even if they find a large space for it, don't you think building a hotel in a conventional manner would make most use of the space? They could build more rooms which in turn would make them more money.

@Shavkat @jazel_juan I'm not saying that it's not interesting, I'm saying that the project would be too expensive for us to be able to afford to try it. And with the population density problem we have now (which high rises are suppose to solve), wasting a large lot of land to house a hundred of rich people for a night is not exactly ideal. Okay, I'll try explaining in another way. Let's say that plane could be remodeled to have 100 rooms. If you take that 100 rooms and build it in a 3 story building, that building would probably take up 1/4 of the lot that the plane took up. So essentially, the investor would have to pay more for a lot to have the project developed, only to have 100 rooms to earn from. So, to make sure he won't lose money, the price of the rooms would have to be 4 times more than your average hotel room. And I don't know how plane re-modelling works. Probably more complicated and more expensive than just building a concrete 3-storey hotel. It's a cool idea, that plane hotel. But doesn't mean we should build it.

@swirlz I am sure the owner or the investor would find its way to where should be situated. If they like the way it is, then things will follow after. @jazel_juan I do agree on that. It is in the person how passionate to try new things in life.

@mom210 I agree. We can recycle things up than throwing them in a trash. It is a good thing in saving our mother earth.

@miniam I do think so my friend. Instead of wasting the raw materials, it would be nice to have the better creation of the aircraft.

I agree. I think retrofitting older (retired airplanes) into a hostel/hotel is an excellent idea. I've read about a few around the world but have not had the chance to stay in one yet. Would love to try one someday. People would be surprised at how many airplanes are just sitting around rusting and rotting in airplane graveyards around the world. For these airplanes to be converted, it would take an individual or company with plenty of money and imagination. I think more "Airtels" would be a popular place for travelers to stay who are on a budget. Until I moved to the Philippines, I always stayed in hotels because my trips have almost always been for business. However, now my trips are for pleasure and my wife and I try to find interesting places to stay. One such place was a cute and rustic bungalow set in the middle of a lush property. Another was a private family house on a beach which was converted into a 5 room hotel. The family runs this little resort with such love for us guests. Another was set on a small natural park with bungalows and the main structure which is a 3-4 story hotel. The place was so beautiful and relaxing with nature all around us. A true resort without paying resort prices. They grow all their own produce and herbs for their fantastic restaurant. A slice of Heaven. ‹(°¿°)›

@jumpinjac00 Wow! You have different places and experienced different place to stay. I do think it would be nice to remodel aircraft instead of put them in the junk.

I think it is a good idea so that the old plane will not turn apart into pieces. And it is a new experience to live in a Jumbo Hostel. I wonder whether it is expensive

@youless I do think it is still expensive to have the experience in this kind of Jumbo Hostel. In time, it will be affordable for the people.

After jet lag, the last thing a traveler wants to be reminded of is an airplane. No thank you. I'll take the regular hotel suite.

@josie_(1475) I guess it is not convenient to relax if the clouds bump in an aircraft. It is kinda like a rough road.

I've not heard of this before, but then again I've not had the pleasure of traveling in Europe or other places other than the states and Canada. Sounds like it could be a fun idea, and I'd be willing to give it a try if it's not too expensive.
