What have you done?

Ready to build a wall.

A few months ago we decided that big changes were in order, you may have read about the bathroom renovation we undertook (or more correctly commissioned contractors to). Since that time we have been busy, adding walls, putting up new ceilings, rewiring, putting in new lights, painting, etc. The work is slowly bringing the place to order, but there is still a fair amount of pain left to go through, for example paint needs to be applied, before everything is shiny and new again. We have to add a new bathroom, upgrade the kitchen, both of which are jobs we need a contractor to complete. This is a big year of change, the house seems a mess right now, but it is, we think, worthwhile. What changes have you been going through in your life?

We lived in rented apartments for many years, we made renovations to the house where we live now, when we bought it 17 years ago. Now there is nothing else to do. I painted the ceiling last year, to have them perfectly white and clean.

Ceiling and walls need re-touching every once in a while. It is my experience that when you own your house you never stop improving.

@LadyDuck also anything you have not worked on can often look dated, such as the wallpaper in one of the rooms.

@pgiblett It is true, I have seen my grandparents and my parents doing this during all their life.

We are in the middle of having the major part of the house painted and it is looking good. I'm really pleased with it. Once, we always did our own painting but the shoulders and back don't stand for it any more.

That is true, we feel the same - we look to get others to do the harder jobs.

@pgiblett ...Like man proposes, god disposes, in our household, vanny proposes, daddy disposes. I liked one, dad wants something else. Dad's will be done..

Was your house damaged in a storm or did you just decide to update? I see more people doing that nowadays. That is one reason we live in an apartment, if any work is needed, our only job is calling maintenance Good luck with remodeling. .

Our house would be the only one left standing if a storm came down our street. We are simply remodelling and making it look new again.

It isn't a nightmare to live through as we don't have to go to that end of the house when going to bed.

@jaboUK The only time it is a nightmare is when rubbish has to be taken down the stairs, then that takes forever to clean up.

Its good to be able to do renovation when you have the time and money etc. I can remember how much fun I had when I added an extension onto the home.

I try to avoid them nowadays unless it is absolutely necessary. One reason is, of course, the cost and another is the mess it entails - the cleaning up is tough. I do hope the job is well on its way to final conclusion - siva

Old plaster walls - my parents old home had walls like that. Renovating that can be really messy. Once I have some cash I'm hoping to put running water in our camp. Hand pumping everything is getting a bit old.

The old plaster walls were a little bit of a challenge, but the new walls are now up and almost aligned. Last bit of plastering going in today (hopefully).

But something is always changing in your life even if you aren't fixing things about the place.
