How do you increase your patience level.

It is said that being patient is key to success. We all have different patience levels. Some of us lose our patience at the drop of a hat and some us remain cool as cucumber, irrespective of the situation around us. I also generally lose my patience, however, sometimes I cannot help, where there is too much pressure, I tend to go impatient. Do you feel that your patience level should be higher than what it is right now and what steps do you take to increase your patience level? Image courtesy - phlurbsem2011.wordpress.com

I think that my patience level is already very high, I do not think I have to increase my patience level.

There a couple of ways a person can read the title. It can read... how do you increase your patience ? or how do you increase your patience ? I don't know how? guess I'll need to read the comments. if i have enough patience.

You need to have high level of patience to know the stress in the title of discussion is on 'patience' or on 'how'.

@wiLLmaH - Do you mean to say that you anticipate when your dear hubby is going to explode and you start taking deep breaths so as not to lose your own patience and hit him hard with an object.

I think the less you give a crap.. the more patient you are.. Patience is inversely proportional to degree of care..

@Drosophila - Thanks for elaborating.. I agree we need to control our emotions in a better manner. Even if we wish, there are some things or persons in our life, who bother us, it gets difficult not to 'think' or care about those things/persons. If we could become stoic, then we could win the battle. What do you do? Do you stop caring about those things/persons which bother you?

@dpk262006 the less you care about "something" or "someone" the more patience you will have for this "something" or "someone". In essence.. the degree of patience increases, as your degree of care decreases. Mathematically it's known as "inversely proportional"

I think I should find ways for me to increase my patience level. I usually observed that I can handle my stress more once I start my day with a prayer. I am a very impatient person but when I start to pray then everything seems to be okay.

Women's hormones change every month and when our hormones are in rage, we tend to be impatient. So what do i do when this period of the month arrives? I pray that I won't burst when I lose patience.

I agree with you Toni that during few days in a month, there are hormonal changes in a woman's body and that could make her more irritating. It is good that you pray during those days to maintain your calm. However, sometimes it gets difficult to control yourself and your burst out.

I feel the same way as you , with not so much patience . So, when my patience is i think ebbing , i go to the water dispenser and drink a cold water slowly . Somehow it cools my head and increases my patience .

It is wiser on your part that when you feel that you are going to lose your patience, you take cold water and sip it slowly so as to distract and to coll yourself. I appreciate your idea of gaining more patience.

@JudyEv - I find it a very bright idea that we should start thinking in our mind that where we will be after 24 hours and this thought will divert our attention from the immediate issue and we will be able to manage our composure.

@dpk262006 I also say it to myself when I am getting anxious or upset about something. For some reason it works. I think I start thinking about where I'll actually be in 24 hours and it takes my mind off my troubles.

If someone is testing my patience, I don't give it to them right away. I tried to calm down as much as possible and pray hard for God's guidance. I seldom flare up in any situation.
