A Wet Day in Wellington, New Zealand

As some of you know, I live a couple of hours north of Wellington, the capital city of New Zealand. My husband and I lived there for many years and so I have quite a soft spot for the city. Consequently, I go down whenever I can. Lately it hasn't been as often as in the past.
Earlier this week I decided it was time for a day in Wellington. I went down on the early morning commuter train, even though leaving in the dark was not really my idea of fun! The train left at 6.15 a.m. and arrived in Wellington at 8.25 a.m.
The day was grey and drizzly, though fortunately not cold, even though we are in the midst of winter. I started with breakfast at my favourite pub, a Belgian Beer Barn, and selected one of the weekday specials. It was so big I could hardly eat it all!
The rest of the time was spent wandering through shops in the city centre , making a couple of small purchases, and spending quite a bit of time at a photographic exhibition at Te Papa, our national museum.
Then, as the weather had cleared a little, I wandered around the waterfront, just enjoying being back in a place I love, before going to the city library, a place that is almost a second home to me!
As I was feeling tired, rather than wait until the 5.15 pm train home, I caught a bus mid-afternoon. The day was most enjoyable, in spite of the gentle rain throughout the day.
The photo is of Cuba Street Mall, on a better day. Because of the rain, this was totally deserted the day I visited this week.

That train ride must be one where you enjoy the passing sights. Anywhere you look in your country, you see nothing but beauty.

@sunrisefan nothing but black darkness for most of the trip. I went a day after our shortest day of the year.

@valmnz Hehehe! So what you see is fog or nothing. So you'd just have an extended sleep time.

Isn't Wellington known as the windy city? There was an earthquake there yesterday and quite a few pver the last couple of years.

It is known as the windy city, but on a good day Wellington is superb. The wind is nowhere near as bad as it used to be. And yes, there was a small earthquake there on Wednesday, 4.1 I believe. I've been there during a couple of much bigger earthquakes.

It seems that you was little disappointed due to the weather, but don't worry, you 'll have other sunny days.

You did the right thing just wandering without any agenda in mind. That is the way to go sometimes.

places that have things like busses and trains fascinate me, that is not services that are easy to use, common or even available in many places in america

It's good to revisit favorite places. I'm surprised you didn't go with your hubby or a friend. I'm also a bit surprised by your new picture for you don't look the same to me in this one. Also, I've been a bit out of touch so that doesn't help either.

You have trains and buses that take you where you want to go? You are lucky. Where I live, it's the car or nothing.
