This is a REAL Question

Ok, so I'm curious.... am I the ONLY one who goes to a play and leaves thinking I want to find some theater to audition for? Seriously. I've watched our local Shakespeare in the Park production twice in the last couple of days and I want to be in a play!!!!! I'm 46 years old!!!!! Is that too old? I live in a middle-sized city. There is some theater here. Nothing huge like NY or LA or Chicago. I've always dreamed of the theater to be honest. I grew up in a very small town with no opportunities. Then I was driven by money.... I went to college. I wanted money. College. Money. Real world. Driven. Now here I am. Regret. Bucket List. Mid-life Crisis. Past mid-life really... 46 is past mid-life. My last mid-life crisis was at 39.... I don't want to go into that one. So am I the only one? Does that mean I should explore it? If everyone feels that way, then NO. But if not, well....

I was 40 when I did my first play ever, though I had wanted to for some time. It is a lot of fun, but there is a lot of stress, if you get a large part, to learn all those lines and cues. I had no kids at the time. We rehearsed three nights a week. I did one play a year for three years before I decided it was too much time. We have four or five theater groups here that do great shows. I am still tempted to audition. If you can take the time needed, give it a whirl!

Go for it! We have a small theatre in town and several of the actors have never acted before. You'll be fine. Do it now.

No I don't think that you are ever "too old" to get involved in local theatre. And I can see you enjoying that. I wouldn't call it a mid-life crisis so much as finally having the time to do something for you. And of course what I find that makes a theatre cast truly rich is the vast differences in the cast members, age, size, height, accents and expertise. Congratulations, I think that this discussion has launched you on a new path-I hope!

You are never too old! We have locals in the 80s who are in local performance groups.

Why should you be too old for theater? Go for it if this is what you like and you want to do.

If your mental age is 16 then the age 46 doesn't matter
