I have many friends who have money and are educated, but never read books. When I buy books, they say I am wasting my money.
When they are free, they talk to their friends, crack jokes and laugh.I wonder how one who can buy and read books can live without reading them.

You will be better than them.
If they do not want to learn, and read, you will be ahead of them soon.
In the context of Singapore, most adults do not read too, but they will take up courses to upgrade their skills.
It is common to see people in their 40s or 50s studying for a diploma in a completely new field.
This is the way that society progresses, and we have to catch up with it.

@Marty1 I have completed a book about investment.
Millionaire teacher by Andrew Hallem.
He teaches middle school and yet he can accumulate a million dollars of net worth `in less 20 years of his working life.
He did save very hard.
Instead of renting a room, he helped those who had 2 houses to keep the second house safe by house-sitting arrangement.
That is an innovative idea.

@else34 Wow, I admire those who can study online.
All great business persons read.
They have to read to catch up on the changes in their industry.
They have to read to learn about the law, accounting and other aspects that will affect their business.
They know about the impact of currency and inflation, and yet those who are working for them just go home, watch TV, play games and sleep.

@scheng1,That's exactly what I say to my friends. They keep laughing.I don't care, because I know how rewarding reading books is.Here in my town also many people who are in their 50s have joined different courses. And yes,an elderly gentleman has become an efficient accountant by studying online.

@Marty1 That's because unlike your sister you are not interested in watching movies which she is.I am like you.I can 'watch' a movie only if you fasten me with the chair although there I may fall asleep in a matter of minutes.Give me a good book,I will read it until it's finished.

I know few who never read newspapers, listen to news and closed to daily realities.
One said he stopped subscribing to newspapers as they remained unopened!
I follow news more on the net now and try to read books and buy then when they catch my fancy - siva

If you like to read, that's you - nothing wrong with that. I, however, do not like to read. I find it incredibly boring.

Everyone has the right to do as they please - if people don't want to read it's their business. All education dos not come from books.

I have friends with the opportunity to buy a book, but do not. Often the case when I read a book at school almost all classmates look at me strangely. Still ask me questions like,, because I read ", ,,Oh how many pages is this brick." Why do not read the book and understand what so many people read and spend their free time doing this hobby.

That's not right or nice at all for your friends to say that you are wasting your money buying books. I think that reading books is very good for people, and it can be a really great away to take a break from your own life's problems by reading a book. I think that if more people shut off their phones, or reality t.v shows, and sat down to read a book, they would find that its a very calming thing for the mind.
