I Definitely Needed a Coffee

I had one of those embarrassingly senior moments today. I was taking a break from my library research at a nearby café. I started chatting to the girl behind the café as I placed my order for a latte. The conversation ended and she said she'd bring my coffee over. Have I paid for it I asked. She gently reminded me I had. I paid with a ten dollar note and she'd given me the change. I had to laugh. I'm so used to paying with my eftpos card, not cash, and I certainly didn't remember using my card. The dear girl handled my forgetfulness well. You need a coffee, she said with a smile.

Most of the young people working in hospitality here have the right personality for it! We have an outstanding hospitality school here, so those who get jobs need to be good at what they do.

You're lucky she was honest to tell you you have already paid. There are some people in my country who wouldn't be that honest and take advantage of people who forget.

That wouldn't be to anyone's advantage except her boss. It's one of my local cafes, they know me there.

@valmnz that's good then. But in here they could just put it in their pocket because the coffee has actually been already paid.

It's a good thing that she is an honest girl . That's why whenever i buy , i really focus on my paying it . The sales clerk might not after all be too honest when i ask her .

@valmnz Maybe that's because scams and frauds by dishonest persons are not frequent there .

I think we are probably more trusting here in New Zealand. I'd never question the honesty of such a person.

It profits no one if you'd paid another time and I'm glad the girl behind the counter was ever attentive with her work.

I am also going through this forgetfulness .. But the worst part about being forgetful is that we always remember those we'd love to forget and forget those we need to remember..

@valmnz Yes - imagine being called back to pay - embarrassing - but we can put that down to age as well - especially at our age!

That reminds me of a joke I heard years ago: Friend (speaking about the after life): Do you believe in the hereafter? Me: Oh, yes, I think about the hereafter all the time! In fact, every time I walk into a room, I have to stop and scratch my head and ask myself: "What is it again that I'm here after?

I get that a lot as I cashier at the grocery store where I work. I either don't remember taking a person's payment, but the register will say zero owed, or they don't remember to pay me and begin walking away. Some don't remember taking the receipts nor any change they received. I don't consider those senior moments, but being busier than we should be perhaps?

Whether or not you really need coffee is all in whether or not your brain is awake. How do I know? Been there. Done that. Too many times to recall exactly. lol

That was a funny experience! Well, when we get caught up in a discussion or chit chat with someone, we tend to forget some of the things we are doing or bound to do. I also experience that most of the time. Like there are instances when I am doing something then a student comes into the office to ask some questions regarding a homework or project then when that student leaves, I forget what I was doing or if I were reading, I forget which part of the material I was in.
