What would make the world a better place?

I live in a world where people amass great fortunes they will never be able to spend in a thousand life times. I also live in a world where a person's lifetime is cut short due to a life of poverty. The sad part is I don't live on two different worlds. Why is it a man can drive past a homeless person in an expensive sports car and not feel an ounce of guilt? Is human life not the most precious commodity we have anymore?

The world would be a better place if everyone realized (and utilized) their potential to reach out and help someone in need. I believe everybody has something to give. It isn't always a matter of money. Sometimes it's simply a listening ear or someone who truly cares or even seeing an elderly neighbor who needs a helping hand. It's about getting out of yourself and being selfless.

The world would be a better place if peace reigns everywhere.

How can we have peace when we can't even get passed differences in culture?

@PhillyDreamer That's definitely the reason peace is illusive. That's my opinion and I think that's the essence here in Mylot - to freely express our thoughts. Thank you.

I believe those qualities of humanity are what will save us, but only after the worst qualities bring us to the brink of destruction.

I have not seen you in forever so hey, welcome back!
Now to the topic, if I had loads of money and did not help others I would feel very ashamed. My husband and I help others and we barely get our own bills paid. If we were rich we would be able to do so much more for others.

I almost began this post as a tirade against the rich, but I know there are wealthy people who donate plenty. I don't know if charity is the answer, at least not the kind that directly helps the people who need it the most. What if businesses charged a dollar less for their products? What if workers didn't ask for raises? What if the cost of living was drastically reduced at the cost of some profit to big business? It seems to me that monetary gain instead of helping motivate people to do their part is resulting in the type of greed that is destroying us.

If I could wave a magic wand, eliminate cancer from existence.
