It is really interesting to have foreigners comment about your country. Whether right or wrong, it's really amusing sometimes to know their viewpoint about your country. I have come across some comments about my country in this forum. But I thought...why not ask myLotters straightway here so that I can find the responses in one place. Varied topics like Indian movies, women, politics, rhinos, flora and fauna etc...the list is endless..I don't know what interests people... Still I am interested to know....

I have seen movies filmed in India and know it can be tough for you living there. I know the basic history of the British Raj. I know India produces an insane number of beautiful women.

@zap_81 I agree. Besides, beauty combined with intelligence and hard work only lead a woman to win a beauty contest. I think the nation has many capable women to win a contest. Interestingly invariably all of them end up in bollywood than anything else. I don't know why.

@JohnRoberts Thanks for praising our women though they are never ours or yours anyway. However, east or west, home is the best. Yes, to an extent we are habituated to the hard ways also... If you form an opinion from Indian films, you may be wrong, though cinema is a major cultural phenomenon.. it depends on what sort of movies you watch.. 'Slumdog Millionaire' will surely give you a distorted idea about the life in India..

I KNOW? Uuumm … I know most of the Indian people are beautiful, have great hair, can dance and sing, are really good when it comes to technology, can spell English words way better than Americans; revere Mahatma Gandhi; are slowly but surely moving away from the caste system; are displeased with the corruption in their government and crimes, particularly assaults against women that seem to go unpunished; and many have been unhappy about The Partition since it happened, but have accepted the event and all that resulted from it, as not only an inconvenient truth, but an unpleasant one.
Oh! And they teach that Alexander the Great is the bad boogie man!
Never been to India, but I watch a lot of Bollywood movies. Please feel free to correct my errors or misconceptions or misunderstandings and provide me with a clear and true picture.

@ritwik17c - Wasn't sure about Alexander. Came across that tidbit when I was doing research to write an article about him. Thank you for reviewing and appraising my comments. In summary, from what I know or understand, I think India is a great country with a lot to offer the world! I'm sure its citizens are as proud to be Indian as Americans are proud to be American.

@cmoneyspinner I appreciate you for your candid expression and carefully chosen examples.. @cmoneyspinner I can't say that you are totally wrong or right. For most part you are right. As far as Alexander is concerned, he is known to be a great warrior but there are numerous stories about him, which tell us that he appeared to be quite foolish in front of many a saint of India. Though India has never been an invading nation, Her strength should not be underestimated. Yes, India considers all the invading countries as bullies and from that point of view, Alexander is no exception.

@jbaraka Hey that's an interesting thing to know from a Kenyan guy. Yes, you are not wrong. We've contributed to the world some of the best doctors, notwithstanding the brain drain. There are those noble doctors, whom probably you have come across, are keeping the flag of the Indian glories aloft.

@jbaraka I have seen on National Geographic some safari to Kenya. It's really rich in tourism. It's economically better than the other African countries in the east.

I am an Indian and the one thing I love about India is - Everything!
But there are times, you know, when it saddens me to see people so reckless and callous about our tradition, culture and our heritage. There are some 'fringe elements' who take absolute delight in tarnishing India's name but as long as we Indians stick together and cherish our 'shared identity', I believe India shall always stand tall.

I jnow that India is a big country and that many languages are spoken there. India is one of the most exotic places with many interesting cultural backgrounds and it is very prominently seen on a map in the Asian continent.

@quantum2020 Yes, India is called a subcontinent because of its huge size. India is known for its peaceful coexistence of diverse linguistic and religious groups. But there is unity in this superficial diversity and it keeps the country together through thick and thin.

@acelawrites Yes, you are right. India, as far as I know, has given to the world a sizeable number of software engineers.. About the other two I am yet to find out, though I have read about a few of them in newspapers..

Not a lot, really. On one side, India is an interesting place I would like to visit once. On the other side, there are only very few points I listened like that in your country exist different languages, I saw the movie about Mahatma Gandhi and some photos of the Taj Mahal, a precious construction. Some years ago, I read a book about Anita delgado who got maried with Jaghatjit Singh, a beautiful and sad storie at the same time. Just the same most people already know....
