Yet Again - Apologies!

My son is very much into reenactment as a Viking. This picture shows an event at Fort Nelson, at which he was "killed" three times.

So we've had a full nest for the past week. My son has been staying with us. As always, he left a pile of washing, together with the information that he'll be back again at the end of next week. So generous! Anyway, I've now finished the washing, sorted out which underpants belong to him and which to Rik (and Rik's slightly peeved that I don't recognise his) and now I'm free to write again. It's been a lovely warm day here. I was going to cook good old bangers 'n' mash for tea, but decided it was too hot, and served quiche (bought, I'm afraid) and salad instead. We ate it in the garden - eating in the garden is always good. True, there's the likelihood of contributions from the birds in the trees above us, not to mention the inevitable investigation by our friendly (?) local wasp, but the meal went off more or less without incident. My daughter's off out to meet an old schoolmate tonight, so Rik and I have the house to ourselves. No, we're too venerable for that to be an over-exciting prospect! Anyway, after that highly interesting post, I just point out that I'm back again! Do you like having meals in the garden? And what is your favourite garden meal?

I do a cold buffet, but put it on the table inside the house. People can please themselves where they eat.

I do that if I have lots of guests, but I don't bother when it's just the four of us.

Sounds like the best approach, yes! Whilst potato salad and coleslaw go well with spare ribs, cold cuts of meat work with them just,as well...

@vivenda Birds, wasps, cats and millions of midges - no thanks! Yours however sounds quite idyllic.

We don't get many cats. I like them OK in their place but, when they're after our birds and squirrels - well, let's just say that our purchase of a heavy duty water pistol comes in useful! Wasps and midges aplenty, however!

Yes, there's a whole world behind that screen, isn't there? I've met folk I would never have encountered in the normal scheme of things through the internet!

Yes, my husband and I enjoy eating outdoors occasionally, too. It can be very relaxing ... despite the occasional intrusion of birds and bugs.

You're fortunate in that you usually do have the weather for it!
