I went to check my blood sugars and had an appointment with the doctor. My blood sugars were high and I am also obese. I was told to lose weight and also to bring blood sugars under control. What are your suggestion for weight loss and blood sugar control?

weight loss...it's easy but not so easy. Eat healthy and exercise...that's the basic thing. But it can be hard, I know that. My suggestion is take little steps towards healthy eating and more exercise. Do some research on the net and find some healthy meals you think you will actually enjoy...that'd make it easier for you to stick to a healthy diet. Exercise...I'd say join a gym but gyms are boring. Maybe just look at your local area, plan a walk you'd be able to do each day....then gradually increase the distance. Then when you are a little fitter try running instead of walking. Also swimming is a good low impact exercise so if you've a pool near you go there.

Cut back on carbohydrates, especially sugar. Get more protein and fiber in your diet. Burn more calories than you consume. Exercise. Eat smaller snacks more often during the day, instead of eating big meals several hours apart. Good luck.

My husband has diabetes and I follow simple rules for him. 1) no white foods like rice, potatoes, etc. 2) all the fresh vegetables he wants 3) I never buy anything that has a double digit amount of sugar listed Of course, this is just a quick list. I just advised my niece that she has too many weight-related health conditions. She has got to try harder. It's not easy, I know, but she's only 40 years old. She still has plenty of time to change her eating and other habits.

cinnamon, garlic, nuts, blueberries - notice these are all organic, wholesome foods. Avoid sugary creams, CONDENSED MILK which is an Indian favourite and anything largely chemical enhanced.
