At what age were you the happiest?

I've worked two days straight at my friend's preschool in Berkeley. Kicking back and watching the kids play makes me happy, though I'm often involved in their games. This morning one of my young friends made me a sand cup of coffee, and I made her some sand ice cream in return. I also brought my friend's upright bass to the preschool today and let each of the kids "play" it. Watching the kids play got me to thinking about when I was happiest in my life. I'd have to say I hit two peaks, one when I was five and another when I was 27. When I was five, both my parents were alive (and together), I felt safe, and my dad took me hiking a lot. When I was 27, I was in Graduate School, knew what I wanted to do, had a cool girlfriend, and was in my first ever real band. Can you think of times in you life that you consider to be happiest?

From 21 to 25 I considered myself extremely happy. Young, free, single, living and working in London, life was a social whirl. Looking back I'm not sure I was really happy. It was all a bit false really. I'm really happy right now. Two grown up kids doing really well in their chosen fields. About to move house and begin the next stage of my life which will involve spending more time with my wife and the animals in a nicer setting.

Congratulations. You are a living proof that men don't know what happiness is all about and need a wise wife to drill some wisdom in them.

@vandana7 Oh dear. As long as women don't give me directions, or fail to understand the importance of baseball, I guess I'm OK with them.

My family was a tad troubled during my teen years. I was looking forward to going to college and not having to look after my little brother, who was not very responsible.

@mohdusmanali123 Mine were pretty good overall, in spite of the responsibilities I didn't enjoy.

You obviously love kids - do you have any of your own? I've been so lucky in my life - I've enjoyed every age I've been. Now I'm in my 8th decade and I'm still enjoying life.

I've been fairly optimistic, and at least somewhat happy, for most of my life. Kids? Who needs 'em! They destroy stereo gear, fart spontaneously, think the world revolves around them, and are expensive. Feh.

that's kinda a loaded question, eh? prolly when i 'twas 'bout 5 'r 6 - my first ride'n a 'real' horse (i'd ridden ponies 'n mules) - we were visitin' kin down'n south texas 'n the great uncle took me to the track where he trained, tossed me'p 'n the back 'f one... the births 'f my young'uns trumps e'en that.

@sol_cee ... Yeah...then they forget to smile...become solemn like priests or angry like angry birds...smh. Very good friends though...because then those solemn glares are directed at others, and anger too is directed at others.

I think I was probably the happiest in early high school when I was with my best friend, in college when I thought I knew everything and didn't know a thing, and right now when I know I don't know squat and am working on trying to learn everything in the world.

@TheHorse I know I'm really lucky to be basically healthy, to have a loving husband and some good friends. I know this is much more than many have so I don't worry about wanting anything else.

What kind of fun? I played a lot of softball in my 30s. I enjoyed that, but it was in my 30s that I realized that everything I thought I knew was wrong.

I think that between the ages of about 25, to about 28 years were my happiest. That was when I became married, and had my 2 beloved children. And although there were hard times, especially when our daughter was born with such heart complications, and although we buried her during her first year, we were held the tightest bond as a family during those years. My husband and I often talk about 1991, when we were going thru that. And we thank goodness that our son is healthy.

Wow. Well my childhood till age 12, and ages 19-22 when my husband to be and I were "just" girlfriend and boyfriend. We had good times and I have many happy memories of that. I can imagine your having your first band and your cool girlfriend.

Not really sure honestly. All my ages have their ups and downs. I liked my late teens a lot and my early-mid twenties. I'm pushing 30 and so far my life has been pretty good and have been blessed with a wonderful husband, son, roof over our heads and food on the table with good friends to talk to and see.
