@azis27 And there is also English as spoken in India, New Zealand, Malawi etc. As for me I prefer standard English as spoken among the intelligent people of Dublin. It's so elegant.

@1creekgirl I was in Galway last week and hadn't a clue what people were saying to me. I just smiled and nodded.

And the Irish accent is so charming, even if I do have trouble understanding it. I have friends in Scotland and I can barely understand a word they say!

I prefer American English because I was born in America and have spoken American English all my life. *And you do know that within American English there are different accents, the Northern Accent & the Southern Accent. I was born and raised in the South East (Georgia) and I have a Southern Accent. I was visiting Northern States and people did tell me, that I had a Southern Accent.

In terms of accents I prefer British English because it sounds interesting. In writing I prefer American English since it's not that complex.

Well, I think most of us prefer the English of our birth country, but British English does seem rather elegant, I would agree with that.

@azis27 I grew up in America so I prefer that English but also there are States in the United States that do not have the same words for things. I remember when i came to live in Israel and was learning Hebrew there was a guy from England and he used to say we ruined the English language.
