I can't understand the attractions of these war games

Whenever I go online sooner or later I am faced with an advert for playing war games. I presume they are aimed at younger people for whom ignorance about war is bliss. To those of us who are older or watch the news programs 'war' is too real for it to be called a game. Why does anyone find it entertaining to play at killing, surely a game is something that we are supposed to enjoy.

Then there is the mentality of the people who write them .....do they only care about making money or do they enjoy making mayhem too?

It must be an age thing. I can't understand this, either. Besides, as you've pointed out, most children of today don't know what war means. I wonder how children from war zones (Syria) react to such games.

Children of today don't know what war is I beg to differ. What about the 19 and 20 year olds killed in Iraq and Afghanistan. What about the children of those killed, I'm sure they know the reality of war every bit as much as you do. Thos of us today that weren't around for the 2nd world war don't know what that level of conflict feels like but many of us do know what war means as we've had friends and family killed.

I hope they never see any, it would be too cruel.

Although it would be good if the only wars fought were virtual ones.

Winston Churchill is famous for saying that jaw jaw is better than war war.

They know that many younger people would play it for kicks and never take it into account that young people may be misled by playing it.

yes. The kids from their childhood develop a war instinct among themselves. We are not looking at such things with all seriousness. The early the better. Otherwise, things will move out of our hands.

It will take decades before social workers realise where such addictions lead.

For one thing there is so much more to it than just killing. They are learning strategy and all different types of skills. I just posted a post about this very thing. A futuristic look.

I never will understand the attraction of violence in games, it seems so senseless.

It's nothing new though, is it? Little boys have pretended to kill each other since time immemorial, i.e cowboys and Indians etc.

I don't know why boys do that, the influence must come from their fathers - mothers would never encourage boys to play pretend killing games.

Yeah I find war games quite disturbing too. I don't really play games anymore but if do I'd rather stick to the hidden object games I used to play before.

It's the adrenaline rush that they don't feel in their mundane life.

Then they need to get off their bottoms and find out what life is really about.

I guess in some ways it's not much different to playing 'cowboys and Indians' but I agree with you. There is no way I want to be anywhere near a war game.

@41CombedaleRoad I would be too. I think it is all the younger people - 'younger' being relative. I think one son, aged 44, still plays war games of a sort but they may be more the fantasy type. I hope so.

By war games do you mean the more tactical ones like world of warcraft or the video games like call of duty?
