Off to a winery to celebrate a neighbor's birthday

I am just finished making my (eggless) red potato salad, put the my dressing on and will chill it for later. It is our neighbor and friend Janet's birthday so we are taking her, her guest and another neighbor Al along to celebrate this evening at a winery where there will be good bluesy music. We over did the food, I think, with some good deli ham and Italian style turkey, a baguette, hummus, salsa, chips, crackers and the potato salad. The bad news is that my phone says it is 100 degrees. The winery sits a little higher out in the country so I am hoping for a quick cool down. This may call for chilled white wine instead of my usual red. I will be driving so will plan on more water than wine.

That sounds like a marvellous evening's wining and dining - and entertainment. I'm sure the guest of honour will have a great time. What a nice celebration to plan for her.

She did have a great time. The band has a special blues version of the birthday song they sang to her.

@JamesHxstatic I think it is one of the first songs all bands need to learn. In his very early playing days, Damian filled in playing with a young group of teenagers on New Years Eve. Came midnight and they couldn't play Auld Lang Syne. None of them knew it. One irate lady called said 'well, you must be a sh*t band then'.

Your food sounds delicious, now I am curious about something. What is an "Italian style turkey"? I have never heard about this thing in Italy.

@JamesHxstatic They taste more or less like big chicken. In the north we make them roasted in the oven, in the south they do not even know what a turkey is.

@LadyDuck I can imagine they would not be at that weight. The flavor is probably different too.

Eugene is a city in Oregon, about 60 miles frome the Pacific Ocean. The winery we went to is about 12 miles from Eugene. It was cooler there as I hoped.

We all had a great time. The birthday girl texted Anne to say it was her best birthday in 20 years.

Seems like you had fantastic time! Water will keep you hydrated so you should definitely drink more of it. Since you are in the countryside, have you tried walking for half an hour, Just so your body can easily digest the food and drinks you had?

It did cool down nicely and the band was great. My 80+ year old friend Al, bought a t shirt and a CD. Janet tole Anne it was her best birthday in 20 years. The band sang a very bluesy birthday song to her as well.

We don't get humid heat very often, mostly hot and dry. It is cooling off bit now thankfully.
