My Brother The Hillbilly

Going somewhere with my brother is always an...let’s just say an unforgettable adventure. I never know what he is going to say or do. One time we got seated at a restaurant and my brother says to the waitress, “You’re not a true blonde with brown eyes.” I could have crawled under the table. The waitress responded, “Thank goodness for hair dye.” We took our mother out to dinner today because it was my brother’s birthday. I’m eating and I look over and there’s my brother eating his cooked broccoli with his fingers! Thank goodness there were very few people in the restaurant. I’m sure if anybody saw him they would think we were a bunch of hillbillies from the back country. But I have learned over the years just to ignore him. It does no good to say anything because he won’t pay any attention anyway. I tell myself that we are all enjoying ourselves and that is what counts. Now, after reading this sour note, here is some sweet notes:

Sounds like he is one to not care to filter himself. I actually know a true blond with brown eyes and its natural. He will probably be fun to be around.

He would probably be fun to be around if it wasn't so embarrassing.

Hillbilly . It's one of those things where you're not sure if you should put a bag over your head or over HIS head!!! Some people are just not self aware . . . and some don't have "filters" when they're talking. Embarrassing for the people around them, but they just keep on going without a clue that they just made a social oops.

@RichardMeister It seems people like that don't think about the other person's reaction . . . they get away with it because they didn't see they did anything wrong in the first place. I assume he was always like this, maybe worse as a kid?

I think you are right there. Many times he has said something that made me wonder where his social filter was. But he does seem to get away with it.

@much2say I don't remember him being as bad when we were kids. He seems to be getting worse the older he gets. When I say he seem to get away with it I mean most people seems to not be offended or even embarrassed by what he says. It like most people realize he is going to say the things he says.

I like your brother and I've not met him yet. He sounds like a fun guy to have around.

If you like that sort of think. Sometimes he's funny, other times he's just down right embarrassing.

Good thing you just consider him. Anyway, he is not young to be told for he knows what is right. I believe those who will see him doing that stuff will understand him.

that is the right thing to do, just ignore it, anyway you are used to it.

Sometimes he does things that I can't ignore. One time we were in a restaurant and he ran out of tea so he started banging his hand on the back of booth and yelling at waitress, who was taking an order, to get him more tea. That one I didn't ignore and really let him know it was totally rude and uncalled for.

Are you sure he's your brother and not a baby left on the porch?

Some people are able to get away with all sorts of comments and/or behaviour. It seems your brother might be one of them. :)

I think you're right. One day we were eating breakfast in a restaurant and my brother said to the waitress, "I know it'll cost a bunch more for another glass of milk, but I would like another glass." The waitress got him a second glass but didn't charge him for it. I would have been charged for it.
