Do unto others

what you would have others do unto you. This is a popular saying and makes a lot of sense. Unfortunately a lot of people forget this wise saying and fail to practise this act. Instead what they are doing is: "Do unto others before they do unto you!" Which camp do you belong to? And why?

I never do anything bad to other people for I don't want them to do any bad to me.

I think the saying is correct and can be rewarding as well. "Do for yourself" is practiced a lot but anti-social?

@Bluedoll Yes, if one only cares about oneself it's not only selfish but inconsiderate as well.

@Bluedoll If people are selfish and inconsiderate and they think of only themselves, sooner or later their behaviour will hurt others around them. Perhaps they may not even be aware or care. A simple example would be playing the music loudly in the presence of others oblivious to the discomfort of others. Surely that would irritate and hurt other people. I'm sure you can think of many other examples.

@succeednow I agree. But for discussion only, I wonder why it is selfish or inconsiderate if someone thinks only of themselves? Without hurting anyone else of course.

I try to follow what has been called "the golden rule" (Matthew 7:12) whether others do or not. One day, we we all have to account for how we live our lives.

Yes I agree with the failure to practice the act. It's hard on someone who has this way of thinking ingrained in their brain and has to adjust.

@Iam_jauntyjen By "user-friendly" do you mean people who are "fake" and less than sincere?

@Iam_jauntyjen Yes, there are many people like those around us and they do have an agenda for "befriending" you.

I am guilty about this. There are times that I cannot control being a bad temper but I am sweet most of the time. :)

@puroypoi Well, no one's perfect. As long as you are aware and can change for the better you're already on the right path.

@kamruzzaman5ndc Yes, our world would be a better place if everyone follows this "principle".
