Good afternoon.Quiet day here. While I was making my tomato sauce and thinking that there was a dispute on this.
I call my tomato sauce and not gravy. Most Italians call it gravy.
When I think of gravy something that goes on mashed potatoes.
What do you call it.Maybe @LadyDuck can help us on this.
Have a good one.

Gravey was and always will be flour and some kind of fat....nothing to do with mountain folk, or rednecks, or yankess...it's universal.

Tomato gravy I can tell you how to make, I am sure its a southern thang, Tomato sauce is just something for pasta etc. Gravy is flour base rue or corn starch thickened broth. But what do I know? I am in the USA and I am Irish

We have tomato sauce and we have gravy as well, which is brown. It used to be made browning flour in a little fat then adding hot water. Nowadays you can buy it in a powdered form and just add boiling water.

I guess it all depends on where you are from and your culture on what you call it. I've always known as tomato sauce.

It's important if it's sauce or gravy. As long as it's very delicious, I will be happy about it. But I think it's a sauce.
