In my family, it is a practice that we need to bring something in visiting some close friends. It is a manner that was passed from one generation to another. As I was thinking it over, I think there is really a sense of doing it. Since you are going to disturb of somebody’s place, it would be better to bring something to munch in. How about you, guys?

Sometimes yes, sometimes no. It depends on situation. Sometimes its offending to some friends when you friend foods on their special occasion.

That's already part of our culture. That's why I seldom visit a friend for I can't afford to buy some food hahahaha.

then you can also eat or munch the foods that you bring along, and not disturb the home owners about thinking what they should serve you.

I'd say it all depends on Who you're visiting, for What occasion and in What type of Environnement.
you can't bring the same thing to a BBQ than a 10years old's birthday party.
Also, the very polite way to do it is to do it with empathy, altruism by ASKING the person you're visiting what you could bring to make the party more complete. A host will always appreciate active participants that are interested to help with the organisation of his/her event. Thus even when it's to answer a "it's all good, got everything covered, you come with your smile and nothing else"
