Bears We Have Known and Loved

This is a little bear which my son and his dad brought to me in the hospital after my spine surgery. His name is Vicodin.
The reason for his name is the great relief this little bear brought to me, this bear who was almost as good as the drugs. Almost. Later on I took him to my kids' dad when he was in the hospital, diagnosed with stomach cancer. When we brought Brian home for hospice care at my daughter's house, he kept Vicodin in the bed with him for comfort. He is a very special little bear.
Have you had a stuffed bear who you loved very much? Do you still have one?

This is the only bear I still have. I had a Paddington bear I loved, and I don't know what happened to him. He was so cute.

He is adorable. I am glad that he has been able to be with you and Brian through the toughest of times. My mom had a bear like that who was with her right up until she passed away. It was a comfort for her. When she passed one of my sisters who was given everything burned it with some of moms other things. It broke our heart but there was nothing we could. Sad that some people are so heartless.
I hope your little bear is always there for you and any of your family who needs him.

I know, we would never burn our little bear. That's sad.

I still have the one I had since I was a baby. As you might expect of a bear who is almost 50 years old, he's not in great shape. Much of his fur has been rubbed away, his paws are loose and he has various holes where the stuffing escapes, but I wouldn't be without him. I guess they'll have to bury him with me one day.

It's amazing what a stuffed bear or doggie can do to relieve suffering. When I am real sick my daughter puts all my babies in bed with me to make me feel better.

@cinnamongrl I had a stuffed Koala my uncle sent me from Australia when i was born. I teavelled with me to Africa where I spent most of my childhood then back to Ireland and got the stuffing knocked out of it at some point. It was a blind bear because my mother removed its eyes in case I bit then off and choked on them. Don't think it ever had a name.

You just reminded me of some puppets my sister and I used to have. We even had some little finger puppets.. Not bear ones, though.

We hadn't lived together for many years, but we remained close friends. It was a tough loss.
