Do you believe in Karma?

Well I was a strong believer of Karma until this happened. There's this very good friend of mine who recently had a break up. He is an absolutely gem of person, he has always helped her, stood by her side in her darkest time, loved her all his heart out but what did he get in return? His girl ditched him for someone else. Where did he went wrong? If you are asking he must have done something wrong in past, let me tell you, we are together since the time we used to pee our pants and I know him more than anyone else. I'm bang on sure that he wouldn't hurt anyone ever, but what did he get in return of being this good? This is the time I started doubting Karma. Does it really exist? I don't care if that girl will get it back in future but why should he suffer now? There are some badasses who never suffer from anything and there are these gems who get harmed because of others. So where is Karma? Does it really exist?

Yes i do believe in karma.Karma hits everyone at the right time,it may take too much time but certainly it will hit. I am sure your buddy will get a good girl than her. And karma will hit her at the right time.

@Mr_Pogonophile yeah yeah I'm sure he will ..But why can't at first time only? Why has he need to suffer even after being the best? Where's karma?

i am not sure if karma really exists.. but maybe if it exists, and what you described happen, it may be brought over from previous life if you believe in the concept of previous life...

Aaaghhh previous life? But why do anybody has to suffer from previous life. Shouldn't a new life be another new start? They should give us a chance to keep all it at the back and start a new start. And well I don't believe in previous life

First off, what is karma? Sorry, I have only a vague idea of it. Let me see... As I understand it, if you do good, good will happen to you in return, and if you do bad, bad will happen to you in return. Did I get that right? Assuming I understood correctly... do I believe in it? Hmm... maybe not really. Because the idea assumes certainty. I mean, it's as if what you do (good or bad) causes or ensures what comes back to you (good or bad, respectively). And this is obviously not the case. As in the case of your friend. If you say your friend is good, and only good things happen to those who are good, then why did something bad happen? It's because that's not how it works. Things happen. Period. The danger in believing in karma is this: you will likely only do good because you expect that good things will happen to you in return. Remember, the idea apparently assumes certainty. What happens then when something unexpected (something bad) happens to you? Then you will be disillusioned. You might give up doing good because you will realize that it doesn't work anyway. Doing good does not ensure only good things will happen to you. And that is very sad when you become disillusioned. The better way to look at it, or the better rule to follow, I think, is the Golden Rule - do to others what you want others to do to you, treat others the way you want to be treated. This idea does not assume certainly. It is about hope. You do good because you hope others will do good in return. They may not do this, it is not certain. But even when you do not receive good in return, that should not stop you from doing good yourself. Because anyway, you are not doing good because you expect good and think it should be a certainty, you are only hoping you'll receive good in return.

@flying_ash All you can really do is hope. Very little, if anything at all, is certain in this world. At least that's what I think.

@moirai well I need some to grab myself up after this. Yes you pointed out karma fare. So certainty and hope, that's the distinction. Hmm you nailed it. So hopefully I'll be hopeful than being certain to what I get in return next time. Thanks a lot. This could be a life changing advice ...

@Shavkat Bad karma? What's that? Karma is karma. Does it apply only to the ones who do bad deeds. What about the one who do good?

Well it just goes to show that your friend chose the wrong girl. Lucky for him that he was able to experienced that because by the next time he'll fall in love, hopefully, he will be wiser. Relationships often lead to that way because some people tend to find some traits that weren't present to their current partners. I am not saying that we should tolerate their bad behaviour, but we just have to accept the fact that they exist. I just wish that your friend will soon find the woman who is much deserving of his love. I have always been a believer of karma that is why it is important for us to be kind all the time.

@flying_ash It's the girl's lost. It's good that they're not yet married or else they'll have to deal with all the legal stuffs.

@EMbakes Yeah thankfully this happened and now he can be with someone who's more deserving of his love, who could love him back the way he did!

I do believe karma. The good thing about karma, is you don't have to see it or be there for it to happen. Karma always comes when least expected. That way you know your being punished for what you did. Some people just don't get it and keep repeating the same mistakes. Karma loves to visit them.

@rusty2rusty I wish it does exist. It's amazing how does a invisible power hold the rights to punish the victim. Wow there must be a accounting center of Karma somewhere which handles it all. I wish I could visit that :p

@sherryericha why do good people suffer at all then? If they haven't done any wrong they shouldn't be hurt ever according to the Karma thing.
