My daughter's artwork

Here's a photo of my youngest daughter at the art show hosted by her college. It was taken over the summer. She's standing next to some of her pictures. She worked so hard and I felt incredibly proud of her. In particular I love the second picture down, which was inspired by the Syrian refugee crisis. The one above it was inspired by her daily commutes. She is looking forward to getting her artwork back now that the exams are out of the way, but as some of these are quite big pieces, she has no idea where she will hang them. She's now at university studying English language with creative writing, but still finding time to keep up her drawing, which I'm pleased about.

@5thHouse Well she looks good in that photo. So, how's she look with the purple hair?

@moffittjc The purple hair looks pretty cool. She's had it green before. She usually does something a bit unusual with it around Halloween so I wait to see what's coming next.

She is very creative and often dresses in quite a quirky, individual style. She's quite conservatively dressed here. Her hair is currently purple.

I have such admiration for people who can paint and draw. What did you like to paint?

Your daughter is a beautiful and talented young lady. Correct me if I am wrong but her painting style seems to bend towards social realism, beautiful

She feels very strongly about a lot of social issues and this is reflected in much of her work, but she also likes to draw fantasy related things. She likes manga and she has never really grow out of her childhood fascination for dragons.

@5thHouse yes I noticed right away cause I also paint realism but just realism, there are many types like social, magic etc.. The older influences do stick, it never really leaves, it just matures and the styles sort of combine.

These are very beautiful works of art. I like the second one down too. The top one reminds me of my commute to church. I guess trains are the same the world over.

I think train stations are a great place to 'people watch' and inspire creative work. Beth spent a lot of time taking photographs in urban scenes and trying to tell stories of the strangers she'd seen through her artwork.

She is really talented! I love the paintings. The second one looks like it needs to be completed ...did the college rush her with the paintings?

oh! wow! That has a brilliant meaning then. That is a deep and perspective thought.

I know what you mean about the second one but it is complete. It was quite deliberate I think to have some parts in black and white, some in colour, perhaps suggestive of an uncertainty about the situation, of how it might end, of how it would be viewed, how some refugee stories are noted more than others in the eyes of the world whilst many other stories are untold, in the background, anonymous. And the background she has used for the picture is pages from the Financial Times, as an ironic touch.

Those are lovely pictures. I can imagine that it is hard to find places to put these once they are completed.

Very nice. She should store the art work somewhere and use it to show to others if she wants to find a job as a artist.
