"Hello Debora, This is Dr. ****** at the urgent care clinic." (I held my breath).. "I'm calling about your mother, Mary." (My heart stopped) "Is she o", I began to ask and he replied that she was ok, "ok" being relative to the fact that it was not fatal. I could breathe again as he explained she had fallen and broke her left elbow and was now on the way to hospital by ambulance.
My eighty year old mother had been grocery shopping. After exiting the store she took her bag and pushed the shopping cart toward the others. She then turned and proceeded to walk toward her car and didn't look down to see she was standing on a curb. She landed on her left side with her arm up to protect her head from hitting pavement. She refused an ambulance and drove herself to urgent care in the next town. She didn't want to leave her brand new leased vehicle parked in a city lot.
Thus the reason that I haven't been around the past three weeks. Mum has a computer but no internet. Most of my time was spent in her apartment as care giver.
She is healing well.

Good to here she is fine.
One thing i don't understand with mothers is why are they so careless with their own care? So many times I feel like i am the mother and my mom is my child. I have to keep telling her to be careful. ...And so much convincing to visit the Doctor when she is not well.

i've done the same thing, not noticing a step and catching myself. i'm glad she was able to drive herself safely even with a broken elbow.

It is good that she was able to drive herself to where she wanted and needed to go. Good to know that she is healing too.
