Last sunflower of the year?

I planted a sunflower seed in a paper cup a month or so ago, just to see what would happen as Summer gave way to Fall. I think it was a "mammoth" seed, but I knew there wasn't enough time for this thing to grow tall. Happily, though, it did give me a tiny sunflower, probably the last of the year. Now, I'm concentrating on snow peas. In Coastal California's temperate coastal climate, snow peas can survive the Winter. The kids and I have planted some in Berkeley and in Concord, and I'm planting some on my balcony here a my house.. Has Fall (or Spring) arrived where you live? What will you be planting (if anything) over the next few months?

Our neighbor moved over into our old apartment. Don't know if he plans on planting more in our flowerbeds or not.

Colorado gets cold in Winter. Do you do most of your Winter growing inside?

The Tokyo area has two growing seasons too. Harvests are usually in the fall and then early spring. Our early spring vegetables are mostly dark leaf vegetables, like canola (we eat the stems and flowers), shungiku (kind of pungent spring vegetable for putting in soup) and winter spinach.

@vandana7 Yikes, time to break out my brain. F = 9/5C + 32. So it only gets into the upper 50s F at night, even in Winter?

I still have a couple of small sunflowers that auto-seeded under the bird feeder. I have removed all the summer vegetables and I have planted cilantro and spinach. The cilantro is growing well, I am almost surprised, it was just a test.

@TheHorse I usually plant the cilantro in early spring, it grows well, but as soon as the ground warms up it forms little flowers and it seeds. This is the first time that I plant it in autumn. I seeded only one week ago and it's already more than 1 inch high. I will let you know.

I love cilantro but only got it to grow one year in Oakland. What season does it enjoy the most?

Yes, Fall has definitely arrived with a hint of winter in the overnight temps The only thing I'll be planting is myself in my chair right here so I can spend time with you all.

@TheHorse We've got good temps all week, even where I'll be going for the next three days. Almost like fall has taken a vacation too. They call it Indian summer. At least they did while I was growing up. Summer's last hurrah.

@just4him They call it that here in California as well. Right now (early morning) my feet are cold as I type.

I love sunflowers. Autumn has arrived in our area, the colour is just about at its peak right now, it won't be long and we'll be thinking about putting up our snow fence at the back of our property and shutting off the top waterfalls on our pond, as things will be freezing over in another few weeks.

Fall is here with leaves turning and no frost yet, but we are in the middle of a five day rain and wind storm, wind up to 45 mph, 65 on the coast.

I always assume you're a few degrees warmer than we are. Can you grow tomatoes year round down there? I think we did so in Oakland. But out here in the 'burbs, I don't think it will work.
