Have you ever stayed in a hotel and found the rooms disgusting?

We have stayed in a couple. One had so many bugs that came out when you turned out the lights, I slept in the car because it was too late to get another hotel. It was awful!!!!

That is the worst thing. They give you coupons for free nights.... Like after your horrible experience you really intend on using their rooms again. Riggghhhhtt. They should give out a free meal coupon to a nice restaurant or something. That says sorry better to me than a free night in a crap shack.

Once I visited San Francisco and we stayed in the Grand Hyatt, a four star hotel. (About $150 p/night) It was in a beautiful high rise and all.... It looked perfect and clean. My boyfriend and I planned a stay there for five days but after the first day we noticed that our skin became itchy. The second day we had noticed these red spots on our lower legs and te itching was quite intense. I wore nylons the next day and after taking them off I found that my ENTIRE legs were covered in these itchy red spots. Day 4 and our bodies were covered in the red spots and decided to go to the hospital. What was it? Scabies. We caught scabies from the bed in the room. We not only had the discomfort that it brings, but our holiday was ruined as well. The last day we stayed in the same hotel because we didn't want to infect another one. We got this cover from the hospital to lay down on to protect us while we used the medication. (The medication is not fun either) When we went to check out we talked to the manager of the hotel. We told him what happened and showed him the paper from the doctor. He just kept apologiseing and then gave us coupons to stay for free next time.... Yeah right.

ICK YES!!! We take trips to Orlando often and sometimes I have been left to pick the hotel room for 7 to 8 people. We usually try to get a suite or something with 2 rooms to stay in so we can all be in the same 'room'. I found this one effeciency room that looked great on Hotels.com - was even rated 4 stars. The pictures looked good, there was a kitchen, livingroom and 2 rooms. Was big enough for the whole family. When we got to the room it STUNK of mildew, the walls were horrible, the kitchen was nasty and the rooms were discusting! We left, turned in our key didn't even bother asking for a refund just found another nicer hotel to stay in for the weekend.

Don't it just make you mad? I would have asked for a refund or called the place and complained big time. It is awful they are not monitored more closely.

I stayed at a motel a couple of years ago that was like that. My younger daughter and I traveled to visit my older daughter and for some reason all of the motels were full, so we had no choice (and my daughter had no room in her tiny apartment.) We laugh about it and call it 'motel h-e-double-L', lol. When we went in, it looked like something from a horror movie! The shower was unusable because of the black mold in it, and the floors looked like they hadn't seen a vaccuum in years. Only a couple of the electric outlets worked, the rest were hanging there part of the way out of the wall. There were bugs that only came out when the lights were out, so we slept with them on! My daughter fell asleep first, we decided to sleep in our clothes, on top of the bed because the blankets looked cleaner than the sheets. After she fell asleep, I went into the bathroom and there was no curtains on the windows, and no lock on the bathroom window (which overlooked a big empty field.) When I tried to figure out where the draft was coming from, I looked at the window and it was permanently open for about 2" and could not be shut at all. Every unit had a screen door, but all of them were unlatched and slammed open and shut all night long, they squeaked like they needed some serious oiling too! I stayed up most of the night because we were so spooked out. In the morning, I had a little talk with the health dept about sanitation in motels. There was so many violations I couldn't believe it...not even the fire alarm had batteries in it. The funny thing is, is that from the outside it looked to be a tip-top motel! You couldn't pay me enough to ever stay there again!!

The one we stayed at looked good on the outside too. They should get in big trouble over the places being like that.

I have never stayed in one that bad. The worst one I have stayed in was clean, but lacking an alarm clock and some other basic items. Maybe I'm just spoiled. That is awful about the bugs. Isn't that a health violation?

Yes I have and being an ex Area Manager for a cleaning Company it stuck out even more to me. As you can imagine I was not impressed. I actually cleaned the Toilet and shower myself before I used them, they looked clean but they did not feel clean to me after the rest of the things that I saw in the room.

I can think of one time. My family and I were travelling from GA to WV. It was dark so we got a room at a hotel in Statesville, NC. When we got to the room, turned the heat on, there was an awful smell that same from the heat vent. Looked in it, someone had put like popcorn in it. Then when we got to the bathroom, there was a roach in the tub. I went back to the desk, made them give us our money back...went up the next exit and found a nice hotel room. I can't take dirty hotels.

I have stayed in rooms that I would classify as "interesting," but not necessarily disgusting. But some have been awful enough I vowed very quckly to never return. lol
